The cap does not have the clips. Pretty simple just drop the filter in the canister with a little push to seat it at the bottom of the canister and tighten the lid down. One thing you might have to do is take a file to the top lip of the filter to make it fit into the lid easier. Fleetguard changed the design of the filter and the edges are no longer rolled it is flat. The first time I used the new design it didn't fit into the cap loosely it was a little tight. A few touches with a file and fit loosely enough to go into the lid. If you plan on using the tapped port on top you may need to make a couple of notches on the filter for it to be accurate.
The lid works perfectly and is a great addition to the truck. I bought one out of necessity, the factory cap cracked and left me stranded in Red River NM waiting on UPS to bring me another. A few tweaks on the filter to make it fit better is no biggie compared to being stuck somewhere if the OEM cracks.
