Just received my Westech Fuel pressure gauge from Genos and the directions that come with it state not to put teflon tape on the sender threads... . why?? The directions that are supplied are also incorrect for the sending unit they send. Directions show only one terminal post when there is actually two. Directions also say to ground sender with a hose clamp. Genos says to connect one of the two terminal posts to ground and forget the hose clamp

**** I plan on mounting the sender unit remote on the firewall to isolate it from excess vibration. Should I use a tee connection at the sender to allow the ability to bleed air from the hose going to the top of fuel filter?? How else would air get out and fuel get up to the sender?

First it's an NPT fitting which doesn't require a sealant, and they are probably worried about getting some of the teflon tape into the lines and clogging up your injection system. If there are two terminals on the sender then I would go ahead and ground them that way, there was probably a change in the design and they (westach) didn't change the instruction sheet. On the T it's not really necessary - many have hooked their senders up and not bled the lines with no problems. In my case I bled the lines just in case - I just left the line loose on the barb to the sender and had someone bump the starter and pulled back on the line a bit until I had fuel coming out and then slid it the rest of the way onto the barb and tightened it down. If you have questions you can always call Geno's at 800-755-1715 and they'll be glad to help you out.

Westach Fuel Pressure Gauge

Just installed mine, today...

Westach has a new sender with the gauge. Unfortunately, they don't seem to think that updated installation instructions are necessary... :( I contacted Westach support, and they say it doesn't matter which terminal post you use. Just use one for ground, and the other for the sender wire. They do suggest that the sender ground be the same one as the meter is grounded to.

Mounted the sender directly to the injector fuel input line using Geno's tapped banjo bolt. I didn't use any tape or sealer on the sender. Just cinched it up tight... no leaks :D .

I posted my readings in another thread... . (search under "Westach").

RJOL,

Just a suggestion - you might want to rethink mounting your sender directly on the VP44. I remote-mounted both of my fuel pressure senders using braided stainless hoses after Grandpappy (another TDR member who helped me install the gauges) told me that he had lost two (2) direct-mounted Westach sending units to engine vibration. I used Ray's banjo bolts as well to plumb my lines.

Again, just a suggestion that might save you a sending unit. :) Personally, I believe in learning from other people's mistakes whenever possible - a feller can save a lot of money and grief that way!

POST 200!!!

mine is also mounted on the vp44. what i did was loosen one of the terminls nuts and take the isolator out from underneath it. then put the nut back on and it makes contact with the housing instead of using a hose clamp.

my readings are 12 at idle 5 at wot with the comp in the ez setting. and 2 with the comp on level 5.

Sender mounted to injector pump

Rusty,

I have seen the post about isolating the sender, or just mounting it direct.

I may relocate it later, but I figured I have a one year warranty, and if it starts acting up, I'll just return it to Westach.

Thanks for the suggestion. ;)

Rusty,

Took a trip over the weekend and started getting fluctuations on the fuel pressure gauge . Decided to go ahead and relocate the sender remotely. Had a 3' fuel line made up with 1/8 fittings on the ends. One end mounted to the VP44 fuel inlet banjo bolt and the other to the sender. Mounted the sender up by the fuse panel. Return trip had no more problems... . ;)

Fuel pressure

I used a new grease gun hose as a way to get from the top of the filter to the sender.

I also forgot to bleed the system before starting the engine and it burped and farted awhile until the air was cleared from the hoses.

It all works fine. No leaks w/o tape. Remember we are only dealing with 12 +/- psi.

I could be wrong but if I remember right diesel fuel and teflon tape don't get along. Diesel fuel eats it up I think. Just my . 02$
