I have to ask.

I believe that TDR and Geno's Garage are one and the same... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Doesn't the TDR administration keep tabs on the "goings on" in the diesel truck world? I ask you; Administration, do you?

Geno's Garage Dodge Catalog #69; page 19 "Do you have plans for your truck's engine to exceed 400 HP?"

When was the last time we were excited about 400 HP from a VE injection pump?

2002? ... ... ... ... ... 2003?

Geno's garage knows squat when it comes to 1st stuff!

They should at least offer the 1st gen low pressure piston lift pump upgrade with the associated parts to do the conversion.

You guys listening?

They should at least offer the 1st gen low pressure piston lift pump upgrade with the associated parts to do the conversion.

How many do you think they would sell? Compared to the electric pumps, the manuals pumps are dead reliable and just don't fail often enough.

Genos Garage is a business like any other, have to turn over the inventory to make a profit. These days, thats tough enough on a big seller. Tough to do with an item that only needs replacing every couple hundred k or so. :-laf

We are the "unknown" generation, fabbing things out of cast offs and binder parts. :D

i agree with you and to think they sell parts for dodge cummis ONLY, i think they are doing a great job staying in business and they have great customer service. I am kind of offend by the slams towards them as they have been very help full and if i order something wrong they take it back and do NOT charge a restocking fee. LOTS and LOTS of good people there!

I know I have been nothing but satisfied with every aspect of TDR AND Geno's Garage. Outstanding customer service!!!

Maybe some members need to go to Advanced Auto parts or Pep Boys and do business with a couple of illegals that don't speak English. That will be a very quick reminder that Geno's is indeed, an excellent vendor. One on one customer service and excellent support are among their strong points. I simply cannot say enough good about this facility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first paragraph suggests lift pumps for engines under 400 HP. The second paragraph for engines over 400 HP and asks to let them know how does one get 400 HP from a 12-valve with a VE pump. Over or under 400 HP, choose the chart that fits... seems pretty simple to me.

I am offended by the "binder" comment, I was raised in a '44, K7 with a blue diamond engine:):-laf

While it's nice to hear testimonials from 2nd Gen folks, this IS a 1st Gen forum. I also have had good dealings with Genos, but don't have as many items to choose from as the 2nd Gen and newer folks do. That's just bidness.

What has always bothered me is that a company so closely associated with TDR from the early days, doesn't know more about the 1st Gens. There are some parts (and senility prevents me from remembering what) that WE mostly know will fit from a 2nd Gen onto our trucks. But the catalog doesn't mention that. But I guess that's why we have this forum.

Personally I don't look at the Genos catalog anymore because I haven't had a need to. I rarely look at the TDR magazine either, as I don't want to see pictures of brand new trucks. I could go to a dealership and do that.

Edit*** Having re-read the comments of the non-1st Genners again, I don't think you all understood what Scott was even talking about. If you're not a regular reader in this forum you need to come here expecting to have a conversation with that crazy uncle that's kept locked up in the basement... . or in this case, out in the shop.

you are correct that i am a 2nd gen owner tugboatphil, Greenleaf. i also have done a fair amount of work on first gen trucks and i also plan to buy a first gen truck. if genos has the part i need i will get it from them. if they dont i will shop for it. i dont see the need in slamming them for not having the one part that you may want. they never said we are a one stop shop for all dodge cummins truck. there slogan is "your COMMON-SENSE headquarters" so let think about this with some common sense. if you were the owner of genos (same owner as TDR) and you got 1 or 2 calls a year for this pump you want would you stock it knowing that there is rubber in it that can dry rot or metal that could rust jsut sitting on a shelf? If you say yes would you send that rusted dry rotted pump to your customer? i sure hope not i would be pretty upset if that was at my front door... i hope you see the point about inventory roller over and why its important to have things that move fast when you are a very small and specialized in just one brand of truck and not to mention not even all of the truck of that brand. rant over and hope you have a great day. there was nothing nasty meant buy this just a little food for thought.

edit, i look at all the forums for a few reason. first i know a fair amount about all these truck and if i can help someone i will, second its a good way i can also learn from other.

johnboy,

No offense taken, but I'd guess you and I have much different definitions of what "slamming" someone consists of. I don't speak for Scott, but knowing his sense of humor I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic about 1st Gens being able to make well more than 400 hp. If you didn't see them, he put a couple of those funny face things into his post, which usually indicate where someone is not being quite so serious. :)

I didn't use as many words as you, but I fully understand why any company doesn't stock much for 1st Gen trucks. I thought I'd conveyed that point, but will rethink my wording should the need for future explanations arise.

I should have capitalized the part where I said I'd had good dealings with Genos. That was the part where I was most definitely NOT slamming Genos. If I had meant to slam them, I'd have used words like, "no-good so and so", or "that doggone fellow. " #@$%!

I also want to apologize for using "bidness" instead of the proper word, "business". I was throwing in a bit of southern pronunciation. It was a poor attempt at trying to make light of a situation which unbeknownst to me, was obviously much worse than I'd considered.

I'm going to end my post now so that nothing else can be read, or not read, into it.

lol i love the reply. i did not say anything about the 400hp # i was sort of bothered about the negative gestures towards genos because they have went so far out of the way for me. btw no apologies needed for spelling or souther slang here. if i had to guess most people on here weather in the north or south tend to use words from the south i knew what you are saying. is that sad that i was able to figure it out...

First of all... I've always considered Geno's THE place for odd things (and normal things) for our trucks. 1st gen billet valve cover-covers. Where else do they sell those??? So to offer a piston pump upgrade for 1st gens would not be out of the realm of common sense JohnBoy5. And... exactly how many 2nd gen piston pumps do they sell? 50 a week? Doubt it as those really truly are very high mile reliable pumps. Probably the MOST reliable diesel lift pump on the planet. Yet... there they are in the Geno's book for sale.

Not sure that I can find any particular "slams" against Geno's in any of this. The issue was that there are some 1st gen items out there we'd like to source from them as an upgrade. And most of the items they sell are upgrade items. If you read the Geno's Garage booklet... nearly everything in it is items that will sell once and go over 100K. Very few items are service items like filters. Gauges, manifolds, valve covers, lifetime air filters, drain plugs, diff covers, SS exhaust, floormats, Borgeson steering shafts... . those are all items we'll keep "forever". The don't keep selling MagHytec covers to the same guy once a year.

They DO in fact sell a replacement Cummins OEM piston pump for the 94-98 pumps. And then the diaphragm pumps for 1st gen trucks... from a NON Cummins source. IE: Not genuine. And thats fine.

But I think they could offer the 1st gen upgrade kit to a piston pump... which does exist if you wanna go to the Cummins dealer and get the thing and the other parts you'll need.

Afterall... how many different fuel pump upgrade kits are there for newer generation trucks... which offers the hopes of good fuel flow and never needing to replace OEM junk again? I count 8 upgrades to OEM fuel systems on 2nd gen and newer trucks. And all I see for the 1st gens is a non OEM replacement type... which we all know is barely adequate or long lasting.

I don't see any slams... but rather some pleas to offer the piston pump upgrade kit. Customers are asking for items here. Thats all. If they only sell 4 a year... then stock 5. How many FASS units are sitting on the shelf that take a while to get rid of?

To me their comment on going over 400HP on the VE pump is just humor... and the first time I read that I laughed knowing what they meant. Its not as easy as going over 400HP on a common rail for example. And 1st genners overcame this stigma that VE's can't make power. Folks that have done it with a VE pump are probably on the upper edge of 1st gen tuning and figured out the fuel system without needing to read a "helpful hints" paragraph in a pamphlet.

1st gen owners have strange and sometimes dry senses of humor unlike the other forums. Don't take us so seriously everyone else :D!!

edit

we might become a few english majors by using this site. lol

It's rained once in 6 weeks I believe. Dry. I've mowed the grass once in that time. BUT... its has cooled down. Went from 100 degree temps and high humidity for days on end to 70-80's and clear skys almost instantly. Ah yes... Fall is creeping in on Indiana cause its in the 50's at night. I sometimes think I see my breath out in the garage. :)

Ok, that is funny, I was just reading the thread this came from a couple days ago, made me laugh then too.....

Most of us here are not in our right mind all the time, my co workers think I am nuts when I said I prefer the ride of my 93 vs the 2011 F250 we have (it is the 6. 2 gas engine, so I don't worry about walking home):D... .

BTW did anyone ever verify the VW shutoff did in fact work in our pumps?
