Was wondering if anyone using the dual boost/EGT gauge set from Geno's has had any trouble with the EGT gauge. I am one my second gauge and probe. Mine reads very low all the time and acts just like the first set. Reads normal for about a month and then starts reading low. Probe is mounted before turbo and on the left side of manifold divider. Maybe I should try another brand. Any comments is appreciated. Thanks

Jerky,

Personally, I wouldn't flame Genos' Garage. Any number of things could be affecting your gauges. Could be a bad thermocouple, short in the wiring, improper grounding of the gauge, bad batch of gauges, just about anything. I would check everything before blaming the gauge. I'm not saying so, but, the possibility does exist that the gauges were installed incorrectly or some small step was inadvertantly missed.

How have you verified that the EGTs being reported by the gauge are low? Are they absurdly out-of-kilter to what is expected?

Besides, Genos' does not manufacture the gauge. They only sell them.

If I'm wrong, feel free to flame-away!

I've had mine in about a year now. The only problem I've had is when I get to 1000 degrees on the egt the needle has stuck. It has only happened twice a little flick with my finger and it started working again. Installed probe pre turbo.

I have used Westach gauges in the past on several ultralight aircraft and have had poor results with them. I've had two tachs that failed prematurely and a egt gauge that had the needle stick. I had worked on a instrument panel to isolate vibration and still had gauge failures. All the above mentioned gauges were installed according the directions and vibration was not a problem. Maybe I had bad luck, but I don't think I'll ever use them on my Dodge FWIW.

look into Auto Meter. i have been using them exclusively for 16 years, and never a quality problem.

I also went through a EGT probe. It needs to be properly stress relieved when it comes out of the manifold. I had the wires routed so that it vibrated the connection and the wires broke. Also remember it compares the cab to the manifold. So some of it could be our handiwork. When I put in the new probe I routed it more carefully, has worked well. One valid thing is that the westach stuff is high quality but lightweight- may not be as stout as you are used to. A big dollar guage is heavy- oil filled autometer (racing-top of the line)can not be beat. But a little much on the cost.

Thanks for your replys. Perhaps I should clairify some . When I say gauge I also include the probe as well. At the present the most I can get out of it is about 400 degrees which I know is low. I will check the complete installation again and try to find something flakey, but actually suspect the probe has gone bad. This is also the 2nd probe as well. Thanks again. I will check into the other brands as well.

I had a Genos combo gauge for 4 years and the only problem was a thermocouple a couple of months ago. It as replaced free of charge, how many other companies will do that?
I also have a new one sitting here to install on the new truck as soon as time and weather permit.
