I had these laying aroung the garage, so the other day I installed a new lift pump and started to install the larger banjos. I put them on both sides of the pump and inlet to filter. What I noticed was when the lift pump was on the bench I threaded the new banjos into the pump and they created a burr. I fished the burrs out of the pump and inlet but let the old banjos on the outlet and into the vp44. Any one else seen this? The new banjos took a little work to get started threaded also.

Seems I recall an issue about those banjos being plated after the threading operation - which can cause a tight fit and possible burring or flaking off of the plating in the thread area...

Can't swear to it, my memory is nearly as old as the rest of me...

maybe i'll wire wheel the threads to remove the plating. Anyone else have any ideas or this problem? I dont think you want this stuff ending up in the vp44.

They are a little tight, probably the plating causing that. You should replace all 5 so there is no restriction at all, plus it gives you a good place to read the pressure right at the VP44.

I didn't have any problem with the straight metric threads going into the housings, but I did have to retap the 1/8" NPT female threads for the hoses to the sending units. Until I did, the hose fittings wouldn't even start into the banjo bolts.

These were early bolts - so early that I bought mine directly from Ray Torresdal.

Be careful tightening them - with new banjo washers, they just need to be snugged up plus a "tad". Overtorquing will snap the heads off due to the larger passages in the shanks of the bolt.
