Has anybody used this filter on there transfer case? My transfer case has a PTO cover on it and was wondering if it would work? Any information would be appreciated. Geno's Manual Transmission Filter Kit. #ad

I have one and yes it does work. I forget who makes it, Rockwell or Spicer maybe? The way it works is the oil splashes into the housing and is filtered as it flows back into the transmission. It is meant to mount on the right side. Make sure you follow the instructions for the plate so the slot is correct. It will increase your oil capacity by 8 ounces. When I changed out my transmission, mine was covered with waxy "smeg" so I know it collected. I had been running Amsoil 2000 with it.

Great item, but I much prefer www.fastcoolers.com as those will do far more to protect your NV4500 5 speed , along with synthetic gear lube. Temperature tests prove it.

They were designed & marketed by one of our own TDR members. My personal preference and opinion.

The filter kit is made by Eaton, same heroes who gave mankind the Fuller RoadRanger transmission, and other nice big truck stuff.

Whoops, missed that point.

I don't see why it would not work on the transfer case. If no one chimes in, call Geno's and see if they have any feedback.

Re: Fastcoolers. They were not available yet when I bought my filter kit or I probably would have gone that avenue. Money is more of an issue lately than it was a few years ago.

I put mine on tonight...

Guessed which side to put it on, cause the instructions didn't say.

Also wasn't sure about the gasket placement, put the cork one between the filter plates... bad move. Assembled it with a small layer of silicone, the gasket pinched out when I went to torque the bolts. Filled'er up with Royal Purple and luckily had no leaks. Should probably put the fiber gasket there and just silicone to the case...

Maybe next time.

It goes on the right or passenger side. Somewhere, I do recall reading that. If memory serves, it does say which gasket goes where as well. I couldn't help myself, I had to put some Permatex #2 on the cork gasket. Old habits are hard to break I guess.

Dug up my paperwork.

There was a copy of the blue print with some hand written notes on it. It does suggest the passenger side for mounting. The paper gasket goes againt the transmission case then the plate with the "tab" on the top facing into the transmission. The cork gasket goes on then the cover.

I don't think it would work on the transfer case unless there just happened to be a gear rotating the right way at the right spot to sling oil onto the filter. I would guess that's not likely.
