I finally got a chance last night to install my Muffler Delete Kit from Geno's. This is all after a relatively embarrassing and not successful attempt to do it myself with some big rig flexpipe & plumbers tape instead of just spending the $$ to order the kit. I ended up spending alot more in the long run trying to just do it myself, which is frustrating, and no doubt it'll be quite some time before my wife will let me live it down... lol! Anyway, the kit bolted up nicely and I was able to install it by myself, although it would have been easier/faster if I had a 2nd person. The sound is divine! It gives it that awesome crisp and deep sound that only a Cummins can make! It's not overly loud in the cab of the truck either, which sort of surprised me. No drone at all. It seems like I gained some throttle response and maybe just a bit of horsepower too. Anyway, I would highly recommend this mod to any of you who are wanting to have a radical sound with a stock look! :D

Taking the Cat out will make it twice again louder (in my opinion). Its not loud cruising, but when you get into it, it can scare the living crap out of someone next to you. Or the old lady at the super market when i "blip" the trottle :)

I have a little drone at 2100 RPM in 6th gear, but it comes and goes and is easily gone with a mile or two per hour change.

Pardon my ignorance, but here in West Virginia we have yearly vehicle inspections. Is this kit easy to remove to put the muffler back on for the inspection?

With some proper engineering (thought process) i think it could be made fairly easily to remove for inspection. I would recommend using the 4" diameter heavy duty band clamps (for semis) along with some "slots" in the tube to tie things together for easy dis-assembly.

can you get some pics of it? i haven't seen the geno's kit just the one straight piece that came with my aftermarket kit.

It makes you smile when you use the skinny pedal. :D Or it makes people curious and they ask you questions about it in the walmart parking lot:rolleyes:

Good sound...

Yes it sounds great (put mine on this week), but is illegal here in SC. If I get stopped it'll be expensive #@$%!

You gotta be kidding me all the Harleys all over that are louder than our trucks hope they are getting busted too...

I left the cat on. With the cat still on, it gives it the perfect amount of volume. If I had taken the cat off it might have been just a bit over the top. You don't realize just how loud it is until you've got a cement highway divider right beside you for the sound to reverberate off of. I also used the 4" sleeve type band clamps. Should be a snap if I ever have to put the muffler back on. Hopefully I can find a "Mod" friendly inspection place here in Austin when inspection time comes and I won't have to worry about putting it back on though.

Hey Curt. Here's some pics of how I did mine. Originally, since I had attempted it with the flexpipe, I had cut my exhaust piping off too short, so I had to order some 4" Inside diameter to 4" Outside diameter adapters to add back the pipe length I needed. I used the sleeve clamps to connect the adapters to the exhaust piping, and I used the U-bolt clamps that were on the O. E. M. muffler to bolt the pipe in the kit to the adapters.

My 06 has the delete pipe, sounds nice but when the truck humps to pull my large 15,000lb 5th wheel wow, she screams! I don't worry about police... . like someone above said, the Harleys out there. You put both my 66 GTO with burned out glass packs and my Cummins together at the same time and they collectively are not as loud as many Harleys. I know a judge very well and he says that if I would ever get a ticket on either vehicle for noise, don't sweat it. Fight the ticket and claim selective enforcement.

We need a muffler bypass pipe that leaves the original exhaust as is and a valve opens upon demand to go to bypass mode. Kind of like cut-out on the old hot rods, but can be done from the cab.

Does it exist or do I need to build my own?

Thanks for the pics. I wanted to see how they dealt with the offset in the stock muffler. I've got the same basic setup.

I wouldn't worry about the noise police too much, i've had mine on for a while and haven't been bothered. Don't know if it'll pass inspection though:{

I was thinking of the doing the same thing as when I'm towing heavy for long inclines I worry about my passengers decibel loss. But I would have it "Y" to a free flowing muffler and use it just for towing, but that is where the it's nice to have no restriction for lowered egts. So I just decided to go with the MEP and live with it :D as I think it sounds alot better than my buddies truck who has a magnaflow.

It sounds *****en, I dont regret it. I'm hoping that when Ca starts it's diesel inspections they'll only be looking for Cat's and smoke and not really for mufflers

I have the mufler delete also and sounds great with out a load but when I pulled a trailer from PA to Wyoming it got old and finaly put on my sound canceling head phones. Every grade it got pretty loud.

I just finished installing the Silverline system from geno's . For a few bucks more you have the option of reusing your CAT.

It's sounds much better than stock, but is not near as load as the muffler delete kit
