I decided that with nearly 300k on my lift pump it was time for retirement. The last one started ticking at about 320k, so I think it is good preventative maintenance. I called Cummins Southern Plains and was pleased to hear the price was $84 and change, I'm sure I paid over $100 for the last one. Now I know why, it has "Cummins ABFJV Made in China" on the side. The original and the first replacement Have "Carter Made in USA" on them. I'm stuck with it, but if I make 900k miles on this truck I'll devinitely know better next time.

It's a sad state of affairs when our beloved Cummins is getting parts from China now. They either clone something (can't design their own) or some mfg. opts for overseas manufacturing to make more bucks. I personally am not fond of Chinese made products as the quality so far seems lacking. Compare a U. S. tool to a Chinese clone, big difference. I guess it had to happen sooner or later.

I agree, its sad seeing our American companies move more and more operations overseas. But I'd say it was a long time coming, as the majority of our B series motors are metric threads.

FWIW, our local parts store around here sells Carter pumps. Maybe if you went to your local parts place and asked for a Carter pump for your Cummins it will be and American one. (Don't hold your breath though-god knows if Carter is even still USA made)

I hate to break the news to you - but Cummins is, and HAS BEEN, a WORLDWIDE company, and has factories making engines and parts all over the world... ;)

I am sure I am going to catch heat for saying this but what the hey!! Unfortunately we now live in a world wide economy with most of industry, agriculture being outside the USA. The USA is becoming more and information and knowledge oriented. Emerging country economies like China, India, etc. is where it is at and if they don't pick up there quality other countries will take there place. Do I like it "NO WAY" but the USA is now more the design, engineering, inventor, entrepreneurial and others or producing what we know. I am sure people opened buggy whip and harness shops about the time Henry Ford started producing the Model T felt a lot like we do now. OK Flame away I can take it!!! :-laf

For starters Cummins and other American ( and Canadian for that matter ) companies want to make more money for their investors, so they farm out the products. A lot of us have money invested in the "markets" and want a good return, but we complain when the local big corporations go "offshore". Sure there are still "quality " products made in the USA and Canada but there is also good quality ( and junk ) stuff made overseas. We used to consider Japanese stuff " junk, now they make some of the best autos around. Cummins has plants all over the world, and also uses suppliers everywhere also. These suppliers have to live up to the standards set by Cummins. I've heard lots of complaining about the "high prices " that Cummins charges and now they are starting to come down. We can't have it both ways. Shadrach

You guys have the mindsets of "We'll take whatever garbage your short-term profit margin sees fit to sell us. Can I invest in Communism and slavery and get a piece of the money pie for myself while my own country goes to hell?"

Disgusting...

Yep, according to the Cummins web site, Cummins has been active in China and eastern Asia since 1975:

Cummins - East Asia

And since there's no EPA in China... I'll bet Cummins still manufacturers a 12-valve B series engine in China for the Chinese market and it uses high sulphur diesel fuel.

Strange, the mindset of guys who loudly shout "Buy American", but drive Dodges or Fords made in Mexico, and Camaros made in Canada - but look down on owners of toyotas made here in the USA...:-laf

Even the stuff that IS made in the USA anymore, wouldn't function if you remove all the foreign-made components that go into it's construction...

Not saying I like or approve of all this, but REALITY *IS* reality, whether we like it or not...

Since when was a '69 Camaro made in Canada? Mine was made in Norwood, Ohio the second week of February, 1969 using American labor and American made parts!

Here; read this recent post:

Makes you feel like you really earned those dividend checks, doesn't it?

Do YOU want to support and profit through investment from a Communist country who does this on a regular basis? Actually, they tend to use a more "scientific and profitable" approach now. They kill prisoners medically as orders for human transplant organs are received.

Real civilized, huh?

"But that's OK, I have money invested in USA companies that have abandoned the workers and country that made them great just so they can increase the value of their stockholder's shares. "

I, personally, have written angry letters to several companies who's products I used to buy when they moved out of the USA to tell them I would no longer buy their products. How many of you "stockholders" and fatalists have done that?

It did no good, other than to make me feel a little bit better, but if more people did the same maybe we could have an effect. Instead, 99. 9% of you people just take it in the shorts thinking it doesn't have a negative effect on you. It does.

Your children and grandchildren will be fighting those Commies just like your dads, uncles, and granddads did. Only this time American companies will have leapfrogged the enemy 30 years ahead in technology and money!

They got part of it right.

"Compared to some developed countries, death sentences are carried out very quickly in China. Usually the time from a trial to execution is less than one year. As of 2005, after a first trial concludes with a death sentence, the inmate has seven days to appeal to the provincial supreme court, which results in a second trial. If the second trial concludes with a death sentence, it is carried out immediately. "

We feed and clothe our criminals way too long.

Have to agree with ya..

My family both sides have been in this country 15 minutes before the Pilgrims. I've seen it go from worst ta worser in my short 67 years. As an :mad:investor I to have profit from worldwide trade. But like you say the country and quality are going to hell.

Meanwhile back at Cummins... How's your engine running? :) Shadrach

I'm glad you asked. The first morning after I had to pump up the pressure to get the engine to start. I tightened the two fuel lines and that helped, but it doesn't fire up on the first crank like before. I might have disturbed the fuel heater enough for it to start sucking air. #@$%!I'm going to cinch down the fuel line fittings one more time, and if that doesn't fix it remove the fuel heater. On the plus side, I'm getting more boost at WOT, so the old one must have been failing.

If you have to replace the lift pump... I recommend that you use a FASS. I have had zero problems with my lift pump since converting.

Since when was a '69 Camaro made in Canada?

Not to beat a dead horse, but who, besides you, specified a "'69 Camaro"?

My '98 SS, and those in that general era WERE manufactured in Canada in a joint venture between GM and the Canadian plant - not sure exactly when that started, or ended (other than the end of the Camaro, period!) - but that wasn't exactly the point, anyway... ;)

I certainly agree that the selling off of America, bit by bit, to foreign countries and individuals - currently mostly to those getting rich from highway robbery fuel prices - is a sad thing - as is the steady stream of exportation of our manufacturing and related jobs... #@$%!
