Georgia (South East Chapter) Update

Hello all! I'm REALLY new to the group and I was wondering if there was an Atlanta/Georgia/Southeast US regional group?

If there is not one already Im for starting one. I live in the Atlanta GA. and my 99 2500 is my first diesel.

Steve,

If there isn't one, starting one up sounds like an interesting proposition. I wouldn't know where to start, but I do enjoy challenges. Let's wait a week or two to see if anyone else replies then go from that point.

Cheers,
Randy

I live in Augusta and would also be interested in forming a group. Heck, we could meet at geno's!

Craig, I'm all for it.

I'm in Columbus/Ft Benning. I'm willing to drive anywhere in the state. Atlanta seems centrally located to most of the GA TDR members I have seen post on this BB.

It would be great to exchange lessons learned on maintenance and mods. I know it has been real helpful for the NW Rammers. Count me in.

Being new to the TDR, I haven't recieved any issues via mail yet. I've read in other thread posts that TDR publishes a list of names of members that are willing to volunteer to start a region/local chapter. Does anyone have this list, and is there a name from Georgia? I would volunteer what little time I have to starting or assisting in a startup.

Cheers,
Randy

Randy,

As of the latest issue, there is no existing local chapter in Georgia.

I've noticed a few folks posting on the Roundtable live in, or a little north of Atlanta. As for meeting location; I have looked for a diesel performance shop in the Atlanta yellow pages and found nothing. So I that may not be an option. Maybe the editors of the TDR have a recommendation.

I will email them and find out.

Well then! If there's not Georgia Chapter, Who all is interested in organizing one? We can start off small (like informal breakfast or lunch get togethers) and then grow from there?

Let me know what ya'll think.

Cheers,
Randy

Sounds like we are off to a good start. I say we go for it and see where it leads. I did see mention of a "seldom-to-meet" Atlanta GA. chapter in issue 24 of the TDR but there was no contact name or number.

Andy R,

Take a look at www.dieselhp.com or Southern Truck Parts. It's a shop just south of Atlanta run by Jeff Garmon. He's been doing high pro. diesel work for many years.

Welcome aboard scary! What dealership are you referring to? I hope you're not confused with Marietta Dodge's tactics... But, that's just MY two cents.

Cheers,
Randy

I live in north Fla. South Georgia sounds good to me. Are north Fla. We need to get it going! Just say when and where. Get with me and I will do what I can to help. OK lets Rock and Roll!

I like the idea. Thanks Andy for the heads up on the thread. I live northeast of Atlanta so a meeting place in Georgia would be fine with me. It might be hard for me to make some gatherings if it is horse show season but otherwise I'm all for it.

Would be great if we could get Atlanta Dragway to offer us a day on the strip #ad

Count me in.

Ok, it looks like we've got seven members that are interested in forming a local chapter. The next logical step would be:

When and where can we meet to talk about where to proceed next?

My suggestion would be a Saturday for lunch. That way, those that have to travel a distance won't have to get up at 3am to make a breakfast meeting. Plus, on a Saturday, it shouldn't interfere with most work schedules.

The next bit of information is What Date? I'm typically open on weekends, so I'll leave this up to those that want to attend.

As a topic of disussion, I've approximated the following list based on what I've read from other groups starting up:

A name (what do we want to call ourselves)
When to meet (regular meeting dates/times)
Where to meet (again, regular meeting location)
What format to follow (do we want strict order or make it a 'free-for-all' type of informal gathering)

Optional:
What do we want to do (demonstrations, parts swap-meets, etc. )

Let me know your thoughts and opinions as well as dates that we can possibly meet.

Cheers to all,
Randy

A Saturday lunch would be fine with me. The only dates that are BAD for me are Feb. 12 and March 4. I am in the Atlanta area but will meet anywhere convenient to the group.

Randy,

Can we assume you are taking the lead on this?

What to call ourselves. That will be a good one to toss around.

I am not available Feb 12th but other than that I think I am ok.

Do any of you camp?

DavidTD,

Yes, I guess that I have inadvertantly volunteered for the role of group organizer. Hmmm... Why do I always end up doing that to myself?!?!? #ad

Anyway, my family camps... well... we will once we trade in the old tent for a camper of some sort. That was part of the deal with my wife... I got the new truck with towing power, she got a camper with that has towability. We're looking at the moment if anyone knows of any deals.

I found out that there is a camper show (coincidence?) the week of Feb 17 to the 21st. That may be an interesting weekend to meet. Those that want to hang around afterwards can go check out the show.

Let me know what you all think.

Cheers,
Randy

Sounds like a plan for me. Camping show could be fun too.

We don't have a camper but do like to camp and can use our horse trailer for it. Am hoping to finish the inside this summer so I will have a real LQ trailer. I was thinking that camping trips could be fun if enough of us camp.

March 4 sounds OK to me. And my wife and I camp a lot. I really like the thought of meeting at a great dealership. Maybe we can get some solid answers on things.
