Yep, Dodge is different #ad
The GM Mark of Ignorance has not sent me a letter #ad
I guess they can't claim to make 40 hp more than my poor old Sickly Ram #ad

That is a pretty nervy ad from the company that brought us the "giesel" engine.

Personally We all know GM would have to fight like Balboa to get a pice of the market back and after the DuraGloss came out with the touted alison and bells and whistlees that were nicely polished and heard nothing but crickets at the front door... ... ... ... ... ... . Who could they possibly get mad at... . thats right... the happy ram owners out there and in here. lets face it can you go 200 feet without seeing a dodge pass by? Now send a letter to the public who sees the same dodge ram drive by them at 202 feet later. When the idiots run the asylum you get... ..... #ad

H-D would be out of busness today if Honda hadn't forced them to make a better bike. And then the US Govt had to step-in help them do it. Five Years of tariffs on all imports over 700cc's. $18,000, You can buy 3 good bikes for that much!!! #ad

You DC owners better stick to your trucks because it doesn't sound like you know very much about bikes. I've got a '41 H-D ULH (any of you bike experts know what model this is without looking it up) and a '99 Honda VFR Interceptor. I like riding the ULH up to a bunch of wannabe's on their softails and watch the crowd migrate to a real Harley-Davidson. The same people that thumb their noses at me when I'm on my Honda act like I'm their long lost brother when I pull up on my ULH. Wannabe!! Go to the H-D shop, buy a H-D and some leathers and Presto, look mommy, I'm a biker! Just enjoy what you own (bike, truck, whatever) because you like it or you wouldn't have bought it in the first place. And quit putting everyone down who likes a different brand. I like my '92 K2500 w/6. 5TD and don't care that I can't pull a cement mixer that is stuck in 3 feet of mud. It steer straight, has good brakes, gets 18-21 MPG, has never been in the shop except for u-joints and a rear pinion seal (120K miles)so go ahead and bash me. I like the DC/Cummins too, but I have to wear out my Chev before I buy anything new. Hey, that rhymes! As far as GM bashing DC, it's called marketing. DC does the same to F and GM.

Has anyone received the survey yet on "the ideal truck"? It's got to be from GM. In the questions about engines you have a choice of V8/V10 gas or V8 Diesel. The inline 6 diesel is not an option for the ideal truck. The reason I'm sure it's from GM is because of the V8 Diesel and Allison transmission options. It quite being ideal when I hit the V-8 part.

Hey ULHpilot, the old classics will always remain classics. The old hardtail springers are what everyone else is trying to imitate.
Is yours still original? Love to see a pic. My '76 Shovel still draws eyes in a crowd of "cookie-cutter" bikes. The "bagger" is for "car-pooling" to work . (BTW I am my own warranty station for H-D work also. ) Wife's back was starting to bother her on the shovel after a couple of hours. We've done several 700+ mile days on road trips.
As for marketing, there will always be Fs, Cs, Hs,etc. Makes for great rivalrys at the truck pulls, & bike races!

I just love coming to work in the morning to read this stuff #ad
I just knew I'd get a rise out of some of you.....

ulhpilot - I don't make any claims to know much of anything about older bikes... . It would be nice to see a pic of your '41 - I may not be a fan of a modern H-D (oxymoron or not?) but I have a healthy respect for the older bikes. How do you like your VFR? Any problems? I'm looking at buying a '96 VFR 750 from a friend. The mags love the VFR but I'm a little concerned about the ergos - I'm 6'4".

Love the 'debate' guys. Like someone said "Opinions are like... . , everybody has one"

I ride a Harley because I can no longer afford two bikes, so I kept my town bike. For the road, my Gold Wing was to my Harley as a Porsche 911 is to a 36hp Volkswagen. In town, all that vibration and torque is cool. On the road, smoothness, passing power, comfort, and outstanding brakes are better than cool. I drive a Dodge Cummins because I don't mind the noise, I love the torque, I can live with the mileage, and I can't afford a crew cab. I ordered a new Duramax for my brother because he doesn't need the torque, doesn't want the noise, really wants the mileage, and has to have the crew cab. Advertising? What kind of idiot buys a truck or a motorcycle because of advertising???? If one truck or one motorcycle were best for everone, then the market economy would dictate that only one truck and one motorcycle would remain on the market.

I say give the Duramax a year or so and then you will know whether or not they have figured out how to build a diesel, which I doubt.
As far as motorcycles go, I know there is a place for Harleys, but for long distance rides, I like my Kawi Concours. It's 15 years oil and has 30,000 miles on it, doesn't use any oil, has never left me stranded and will run all day at 80 mph without complaint. Harley hasn't attempted a dirt bike in years and even if they did, I wouldn't give my YZ400F thumper. To each his own, it's the American way...

Guess y'all forgot about the TARIFF that H/D begged the Feds for in 84. It raised the price of Jap 700+cc machines by 40%. This was done to keep HD in business, they were close to closing.

I DON'T want to start a war over the Jap vs HD stuff. I have been in the bike biz for a while now, and they ALL have their good points. I just get annoyed by the "tudes" that come from certain owners. HD owners forget(or never knew), that you couldn't give them away in the early 80's. They do make a decent machine nowadays. They are making a TON more $$ off accessories.

I don't care WHAT you ride, as long as you enjoy it!!

I just figure I would be wrapped around a tree the first time I tried to see what that thing would really do. Must be getting old.

i got one of those , i thought it was from FORD . . when i opened i couldn't help but laugh , looked at the pretty pictures and deposited it in the recycling bin .

What's all the whimpering about tariffs? I thought ya'll liked Ronald Reagan... I'm not sure if the tariffs saved HD or the execs buying HD back from AMF. AMF was the pitfall of HD with short term profit being their only goal. They even used a plastic oil pump gear. I sold my '79 Shovel for an 88 Heritage, then an 883 Sporty, then the FatBoy (named after the two bombs that stopped the bullsugar).
Speaking of tariffs, are you also opposed to the tariffs the Japanese put on our products or the way they inflate the prices of their own products in Japan so they can saturate the market here with lower prices? I am...
The embarrassment comment was tongue in cheek. I like the Valkrie. It's probably alot more comfortable on a long ride than my FatBoy. But having owned four Harleys, I don't see how it could be more reliable than "no problems". I like how I feel on the Harley. It's an American legend, not something Japan pooped out trying to horn in on the market. Rubs? Are you kidding? My truck cost almost as much as my house. Throw the Harley in the bed and I've exceded the worth of my humble abode. Nah, I just have my priorities lined up in different order.

I thought someone else besides g m made the v8 diesel in their trucks. When i was in the service isuzu had a ton of vehicles overseas, and they had a great reputation for durability. that being said i must say that as a truck driver no big truck uses V8s anymore(since the Detriot),cuz V8 diesels SUCK!

Paycheck,

Isuzu does have a very good reputation in most of the world for building good commercial diesels. Of course, so does Cummins. Let's keep in mind, though that what Isuzu has built for Chevy is NOT a commercial engine. I don't know much about Isuzu's commercial or passenger diesel product line, but I bet they haven't built many high-revving V8 diesels. I won't bash Isuzu, but at the very least I'd wait a few years before buying a brand new motor from any company, especially one which seems to push the edge of the performance envelope.

Tarrifs were put in place to protect several facets of US industry.
Japan was subsidizing all of their manufacturing companies at that time. Tarrifs were put in place because the Japanese were flooding the US markets with products being sold for less that the cost to manufacture (their govt. paying the difference) in order to bankrupt their competition. Not only bikes but steel, electronics, etc.
However; now look at their economy, they painted themselves into a corner.
In their defense, the Japanese sent a huge wake-up call to the US manufacturers that poor quality and crapy products would cause US companies to be left behind in the new world market.
(Gawd what have we started here?)
Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Moto Guzzi, H-D, Indian(again), etc. It don't matter.

I got one; not only that I'm suddenly subscribed to "Chevy Outdoors". I'm thinking they know as much about trucks as the Outdoors publishers know about birds -- a big picture in the Cranes (bird) article was a picture of a large flock of canadian geese -- underneath the picture of canadian geese was a description of watching a large flock of cranes take off. Good grief.

As for the "get out of Dodge" sales brochure take note that the new GM has LESS TORQUE then the Dodge. Goes to prove they still don't know what a real truck is.
