Calif strikes AGAIN!!

Run For The Wall

I saw a pretty interesting rv the other day. The guy was from germany and had shipped it over here via halifax. He was going on quite a journey around the US and Canada. It was a mercedes truck with a big boxy thing on the back. It had a web site across the top. I looked the web site up and it showed the rv that I saw, but everything was in german. Web sie bimo-on-tour.de

That's a pretty neat rig. I'm pretty certain the Mercedes utilizes the Sprinter chassis. Rough translation on that site talks about the 3L diesel engine rated @ 190 HP struggling to push that loaded rig with motorcycle trailer up some of the hills around Yellowstone.
That's some real bucket list stuff there!

I wouldn't expect it to with the weight they are lugging around. Think I saw 5.3 tons, which if metric is pushing 12k lbs. That's alot to ask out of a 3L anything climbing grades like they have out west.

I looked up different sites, and it's more like an Artic Fox camper on a truck, and its adaptable to other chassis. It's very common in Europe to see underpowered semi's pulling heavy loads. I'll stick to my underpowered C&C and 5ver. ;)

I have never been to Europe, but just wondering if when you get to mountainous regions if the grades are like ours here?

Pretty interesting. I'll see if they will swing into Bangor when they do the return leg. I'll reach out to them later on.

The translation isn't too bad, actually improved since I translated Ozy's blog a couple of years back. Slang throws the translation for a loop..

They don't like Chlorinated water apparently......:D

I was in the mountains of Italy 20 years ago and traveled north from Verona through Bozen to Austria. I can't remember exactly how they would compare, but I remember some of them being fairly steep.

Ozy has sent pictures of some pretty nasty grades in Switzerland.

Back in the '50s - '70s there were many American cars sold over there (even a few assembly plants) because the foreign cars offered at the time simply lacked the power needed to climb the grades...solution....send over some American muscle....

Europe has been king of small displacement engines for decades now. Probably a direct result of the high fuel prices over there. Remember when gas spiked $4 a gallon? Lots of people suddenly didn't need that big SUV or truck anymore :-laf

Is the Sprinter offered in 4x4 in the US? I would think a 4x4 motorhome would sell quite well over here.

Yes. Factory 4x4 available since 2015.
