My 1st couple of posts did so well getting answers, I just remembered another problem I need to solve.

I have a 3 speed auto and its almost impossible to pull the gear shift out of park. It catches somehow and I'm afraid one of these days I'm going to break something and be stuck. I thought maybe it was in the 'pall' in the transmission(727) but I now suspect it might be in the steering column.

It looks like I can pull a pin out on the shift lever linkage to the transmission thereby isolating the trans and know for sure.

Anyone had a similar problem?

Before I put the transmission in park I go to nuetral, set the parking (emergency) brake than put the transmission into park. This keeps the weight of the truck off the transmission park pawl.

Have you tried this method before going into park?

GeneH,

I learned to do that same thing with my '92 D350 auto and later with my '97 3500 auto to avoid the difficulty of getting out of Park on a slope. When I got the '00 3500 6 speed, I was alrady in the habit of using the parking(emergency) brake. :D

Guess I'm Odd Man out. I just keep my right foot on the service brake as I slide it into Park and set the P-brake simultaneously, and then release the service break only after the P-brake is set. Almost same result, but then I normally don't drive an aeromatic transmission unless its my wifes Dakota or land Rover.

I guess driving a 5 speed does that to some of us.
