Ok, I know it is wrong to read the instructions to anything, but even after resorting to that, I still have a question for all of you getrag/nv4500 change around veterans. When you go to remove the old getrag, how do you get the shift lever to clear the floor?

I first took off the t-case, then went for the transmission. When I was sliding the getrag off, I realized that it was impossiable for me to lower the transmission enough to clear the floor. How do you guys tackle this problem? Do you take the cover off the top of the getrag? Do you just go ahead and cut the floor? Or... . do you :p gas axe the lever?

Thanks fellas,

I usually remove the top of the trans, but since you are ditching the Getrag anyway, ANY method can be used.

You'll be pleased with the NV4500... I have done a couple of the swaps before, and they turn out great! :D

You HAVE TO remove the shifter, or it's not coming out. Not a big deal. The long upper part of the lever is held on to the lower part with two bolts. Take it off. Take off all the boots, and you'll see a snap ring inside the top of the trans, holding the shifter in. Take that out and it should pop right out, as there's a spring under it. If not, give it a couple taps...
