5th saturday in a row I had to work. I was driving up 99 and she started Howling bad and started to bind. After I stopped I tried to determine what was up and I think its the input shaft bearing(s) or something else on the input side. Even if i have it in Neutral and let the clutch out the howling is there and it tries to pull the R's down. Not so bad after it cooled down but still there. No crunching though and all the gears work.

Anyway, I have seen rebuild sets on fleabay W/synchros for about $210. 00. Are these pretty much the same parts as I would get anywhere else? Also I NEED to put in a new clutch as well, so if you guys know of a good vendor that can help with both I would be thankfull. I need advice on which clutch to get also.

Several (myself included) have gotten rebuild kits from Zumbrota Bearing and Gear in Zumbrota MN. The rebuild kit worked well for me; Dieselman359 will find out soon as he gets his transmission in his truck.

$210 sounds about right. If you have another vehicle, wait til you get it pulled to see what all you need, then make one order. DOnt be surprised if you need an input shaft. The pilot bushing is notorious for wearing the tip of the input shaft. ALso, this would be a good time to upgrade to a ball bearing pilot bearing from Quad 4x4.

Yes. I got the Zumbrota Bearing info off of some posts I researched yesterday. I do have backups to drive  but I figure I'll order what I know I need and then get into it. And if I need more I'll get it then.

Any input on clutches? I know that SB is the premiere name but they come at the same kind of cost. I'm not beeing cheap but would like the best bang for the buck. If it ends up that I have to go with SB then OK. I would like to entertain some other ideas though. Keep in mind that I will be shooting at about 400 HP when I'm done. (KTA special & HTTB2 on the sidelines)

With my recent upgrades, I'm smelling burnt clutch in 5th gear WOT runs, even waiting til 2k rpm to mash the pedal. I have the high dollar SBC FE. I would not try to go cheap. It's been shown that anything other than SBC doesn't stand up to the 1st gen torque monsters.

Most likly it is the front counter shaft bearing that is bad. It spins when ever the clutch is out. The rollers pop out and land between the case ond the front counter shaft gear and make A racket. Some times the race spins in the bore and the case gets wallered out. Mine had circular marks in it so I just peened the smitherines out of the hole and it worked good. If it is bad maby you would need to get the hole machined and bushed. Better yer machined and find a bigger bearing.

Well. I'm pulling her apart today. I'll post any relavant pics if they come up. This is for those that have had or have a NOISY rattle @ idle. I am curious to see the centerhub of this clutch.
