Has anybody heard of the full stop that has been placed on delivering new Getrag 6-speeds to the dealers? My information is there is a bulletin sent to all ramps (bulletin # 0-4287) instructing all dispatchers to hold on delivery of any 6-speed transmission from Saltillo. I also know that Insite Network Logistics is looking for off-site storage for these units for up to 3 months.

I wasn't aware that dodge made a Getrag behind the diesel :-laf (its a G56 made by Mercedes CVD)

Opps, I bet you meant the getrag behind the little trucks, huh?

Sure hope Rick isn't a salesman at DSM.

He probably is. SInce when do salesmen know anything about these trucks. :-laf :-laf :-laf ;)

HEY! :p - were not all product-knowledge deprived... (of course how many salespeople drive a stacked 458hp smoking oilburner, and are PROUD of it? :D )

I saw in his profile he is a customer relations manager, fwiw

Tim better just wait for that megacab bro!

Not interested in the megacab. Too much wheelbase for me and looks like a Dakota. If Dodge made an extended cab, I'd have ordered that. 140" or so is plenty for me. If my 05 doesn't ever come I'm ordering a Chevy or something.

No, I am not a salesman, but as Customer Relations manager for the past 15 years I have been involved in many Cummins/Dodge related problems including the freeze plug issue, the bad paint primer 2 years ago, the 5th gear nut problem on the old 5speed and on and on. Currently, even though Dodge Corporate will not admit it, they have put a full stop on 6-speed delivery. Those on the lots will continue to be sold but no more deliveries wil be made from the railheads. I have copies of all the memorandums regarding this action from Chrysler. The problem so far seems to be the rear bearing that "dynamites" (thier phrasing) after a few thousand miles. Also the dual mass pressure plate seems to "fold" on some. We have had 5 in so far with this problem.

As to salesman not knowing anything,I would put my sales guys up against any dealership on the planet as to knowledge of these rigs! We are not #1 for nothing!

Aaaaahhhhh. Someone finally has some info as to what the problem actually is. Interesting. Some on this site were predicting dual-mass flywheel problems.

well

I picked up a 05 with the NV5600 and while I was talking to the saleman I asked if they were getting any 6speeds in and he says "you know we aren't getting anything anymore" I asked if he knew why and he had no clue. So I filled him in a bit on the new transmission and there were some problems with it so they were all on hold and not being released.

I would guess that Dodge would have tested these longer to make sure they were going to work before switching over, but hey who knows...

Rick,

I for one would like to welcome you to the TDR. It's great to finally see someone from DSM on the boards. I've purchased all of my trucks from DSM and will do so in the future.

As for all you vultures that jumped right on him for calling it a Getrag, give the guy a break! At least he was willing to come on the TDR and try to give us some insite into the delays and problems. Personally I applaud him for even taking the time to shed some light on the issue. I'm sure he has better things to do with his time considering the volume of vehicles that DSM moves everyday.

Thanks again for the info Rick. Some of us really do appreciate it.

Richard

Rick,

Just a little fun ribbing, Welcome to the TDR.

As the largest dealer in the US, I bet you guys have a quite an insight as to whats up with future products, etc

I look forward to you posts - Just dont let the "getrag" thing happen again ;) :-laf

Rick

Welcome to the TDR. From some of the responses you got, you must have felt like you posted the the PSD site. Thank God you did't make a spelling error. Trust me, that would have been brought to your attention.

As you may have figured out by now, you walked into a full blown firestorm. Clearly there is a problem with the G56. We still don't know exactly what it is, but your information does shed some light on what the issue may be.

Anyway, normally on this site, you ask a question and you get an answer related to your issue. The G56 topic is different. Any information that you can share about problems with the new 6 speed is appreciated.

Thanks for the vote guys! 2 quick notes. . While I am fairly new to the internet side of the TDR, I was about the 500th subscriber to the original TDR and am friends with Robert Patton. I still have every issue from the first one! Secondly, in the February issue of Master Tech magazine (somewhat of a Bible for Techs), this transmission is described as a G56 and tells where the ID tag can be found. "G" stands for Getrag and it is understandable that Dodge does not want to say the name given it's past problems of exploding occasionally. I just looked at one on the floor of our shop.

I do tend to hear of most new problems simply because of the volume we do and because the "buck" (read complaints) stops at my desk. Consequently I will let you all know the new problems and innovations as I hear them as time allows.

Bring back the NV5600 time, anyone? Welcome to the TDR. If that is the issue, man they screwed up good for letting it get this far into production. Dynamite after a few thousand miles, nice DC wording.

I can only imagine what the internal DC memos said.

The one thing Ford and Chevy couldn't touch was the Cummins behind the 6 speed, so DC changes it.

TDR members,

I totally agree with Gypsyman, I am really glad to see Rick's post and I hope he continues to post. I am a relatively new member I like to do my research before buying any product. That is why my next truck will have a Cummins, and that is why I joined this site.

(I also heard from a good source that the G56 problem is a rear bearing problem and it may be quite a while till you can order a manual transmission)

What I KNOW of Rick is

After learning of DSM on site, I placed a deposit with DSM on my perfect Dodge Truck, then as luck would have it the night (Monday) before I was scheduled to fly up to Spokane to take delivery I saw the infamous Frame problem post. I couldn't get any answers to the validity of this in time. I called the salesperson I was dealing with, he did a 180 on me and instantly (IMHO) became a JERK, said he would not hold truck for me even though he had my deposit. The next day I called and spoke to Rick he was GREAT said he would hold the truck for me till Friday. I still could not get any info from DC or anywhere to satisfy me. So I called Rick and reluctantly canceled my order. DSM returned my deposit in about 3 days. A few weeks later I called Rick and said I was back looking for a 3500 with a 6spd (NV5600) I asked if he could refer me to a salesman (as I did not want to deal with the previous jerk who will remain unnamed, but who I understand is new.

Rick referred my to Duane White 800 635 8000 ext 1207.

Duane did all he could to try to find a truck for me, He spent 4 days trying to find me that truck (he did come up with a few with NV5600( require Pwr seat for my wife's bad back) a White Sport pkg. was as close as he could find. Duane was always very helpful, polite, and knows the product and always returned my calls.

I was very sorry that I was not able to use DSM. From my experiences I can highly recommend them. I know I will be buying a vehicle from them in the future They also sell Chev and GMC just in case DC continues to discontinue proven items with new items.

BUT I want my Cummins, Unfortunatly not many 6spds out their due to DC decision to change to the G56.

Sorry did not want to make this so long. But I wanted to try share experiance

Welcome Rick, I hope you continue to post. You can help lighten the load we put on Tomeygun.

Bill
