Getrag issues

Hi, I'm a new member to TDR tryen to help my little nephew get his truck figured out. He has a 92' cummins and it likes to slide by 5th gear when you down shift. So you have to try getting it back into 5th gear and hold it over and pull it straight down then its fine thru all the gears except 5th, and reverse just did it last nite too. He bought the truck from a dealership that couldn't get it figured out, the dealership actually put a different top cover on it and it did the same thing. The shifter itself don't look wore or bent, and the pin's that screw into the top cover that the shifter pivots on aren't wore either. So if anybody has had, or has herd of any issue like this some input would be great. Thanks

Welcome aboard! The latest issue of TDR has a small section on the Getrag, page 96, issue 75. It has some good pictures of the shift linkage showing wear. Fifth and reverse use the same fork/shifter so that is probably where the problem is. Parts for the Getrag are becoming more plentiful so that is good news!
