I lost gear # 3 and 4 in my getrag tonight. I removed shifter, rail slides back and forth but no engagement of the gears when sliding the rail up or down. What can I expect to find apon removal and disassembly of the unit. Thanks Jon

If you are luuuuuuucky, a roll pin sheared in the shift rail but with a 4x4 you may find almost anything from not too bad to nothing left to work with.

Keep you fingers crossed.

Was in your shoes two years ago... all I had left was fourth... the shifter would move through all positions but trans was stuck in fourth. When I pulled the transmixer... fragged... rebuild shop laughed when I told them I drove it from Belton to Dallas in 4th at 60 mph (getting it going was a trick)... the main shaft was gone... don't ask me how it kept rolling... Anyway y rebuild was $750...

best wishes

Well, I removed the heavy chunk of iron from the truck, and took the top cover off, I found the center rail shift fork to be badly worn. I did not scatter the trans on a bench to determine other needed items. From a general inspection I may need 5th gear on the top shaft and the first idler gear on the counter shaft. Both gears have heavy wear cracks and pits in them. No catistrofic damage detected yet, but I will know for sure tomorrow. Who have you fine gentlemen been ordering your getrag parts from? Thanks Jon

I don't know for sure from your identification of the gears just which ones you have a problem with but I can tell you that the only gear on the counter shaft that can be changed is the very last one at the back which is the companion to the small gear at the back of the main shaft. These two along with the input and the first gear on the countershaft constitute the OD. Any other problem with the countershaft will mean a new part there.

I have bought from Man Tran in Tallahasee Fla. They are on the net and are familiar with the Getrag. Be sure to tell the person you speak with that you are working on a DODGE 360 GETRAG. Ask for domestic parts. I have a new (made in India import) input from them and don't like the looks of it.

Keep us posted.

Update, I scatterd the trans on the bench thismorning. I found the 34 shift fork to be my problem, the countershaft gear is going to fail real soon if I re use it and the fifth gear is probly going to get replaced also.

I am going to replace 3 sncros, 3 forks, all bearings and races, including neadle bearings and snaprings. 2 gears and slap it back in.

On another note, anybody ever thaught about adding a park while I am in there? I have a few ideas in mind, I dont know if they will work or not. Gota go, Jon
