Hey guys - you read on here all the time about Cummins making a special tool for this and that and I've always wondered if they can be ordered just like any other part.

I'm getting ready to swap cams and valve springs, and I've learned that Cummins makes a tool to support the lifters during cam removal/installation, and there's also a tool that will let you swap valve springs without pulling the head - now that's pretty cool!

So I know that I'll need the tool for the valve springs, but I may just go with the dowel rod method for supporting the lifters - either way, I'll have to get in touch with Cummins.

So can I just call up the parts department and tell them what I need? Or are they gonna have to hunt for these things? I wasn't sure if just anyone could buy them.

How would I find out all the special tools that are available for this engine? I'm curious to know what else they have.

Thanks!

The cummins cam tools are a bunch of overpriced dowel rods, lol. The valve spring tool most guys use I believe is a lisle, you should be able to get it at NAPA etc or from Genos.

Don't see one on Geno's, but I take it this doesn't have to come from Cummins? (being made by Lisle)

Thanks for the help!

I found a Cummins shorty MM wrench for the LP in a toolbox - I happened to be changing the LP out also. If I go back out there soon I will get a pic of it CUMMINS real big on it. I found it funny the exact tool I was looking for I found and it was made by Cummins.
