Getting Line-X What Questions Should I Ask?

After reading various posts on the different types of bed coatings, I have decided on getting Line-X.

What questions should I ask the dealer?

a. Do the top of the bed rails get coated?

b. Is there any major reason I should not get the top of the rails coated?

c. What should I expect to pay?

Anything else?

I have a Rhino Liner, after seeing several Line X trucks, it was no contest, the Rhino looks alot nicer and it has more cushioning.

Anyhow, Line-x has the same options as the Rhino, going over the rails is optional, they charge extra for it. It is great to protect the side rails, the only thing i dont like about going over the rails is there is no way to "Feather" the edge of the spray in compound, so you will have a thick, straight edge that does not look that pretty. If you are constantly throwing heavy, rough stuff into your bed or using your truck as a work truck, i would go with the over the rail spraying. But if you dont use your truck much for "dirty" chores and you are concerend with appearence i would say leave the rails alone. I had mine sprayed up to the top of the bed, then got stick on black plastic bed rail covers that look really nice and if they get scuffed up, i just pull them off and throw new ones on (about 40 bucks a set). I have the line-X in light grey on my silver rig. I like the over the bed and the protection is great. Set my tool box right on the rails. I was told that thye light grey I used is more pron to fade. I don't notice it yet. Been on since January. I have had Rhino in the past and liked it also. I just liked the finer grain of ther line-x. Got mine done in Calif. as no Line-x dealer in New mexico.

IMO,most important question... . how many trucks has MY applicator done? Line-x is a fine product, like other's, but an inexperienced applicator could make a mess of it.....

How long has this location be in business? If you don't know any trucks done here you can look at, if you're really worried about having to go back for any problems, check with the Better Business Bureau for any complaints.

I paid approx. $395 for Line-x under the rails on a short bed. Over the rails and long beds are a little more. I'm totally happy with the results done by a long established shop that has literally done hundreds of routine and "custom" applications.

I have had both the Rhino and the Line-x and prefer the Line-x. Main reason is it seems to be more durable. I use my truck heavily for work (construction) and the Line-X holds up better. If you can, get them to apply a heavier coat to the bottom rear portion of the truck (especially around wheel humps) and the gate- seems to get the most abuse. I would also steer clear of the colors, they will fade, my brother found that one out. His red is now pink after 2 years #ad

Are you going to watch them install the Line-X? It's interesting to see how it is applied. I watched them do it to my 2001. First they sand down the bed and rails, then clean the metal, then spray on the coating.

ANyway, you'll enjoy the Line-X. Had it sprayed on my 97 truck, and it is still holding up great, even under a slide in camper.

i have linex , paid $400 over the rail on a shortbed last year , the place raised the price $50 right after i did it , they were still cheaper than rhino linings in this area after the increase , only thing i don't like is letting them talk me out of going to the body breakline on the top of the bed , i slid something in on the tailgate and put a small dent right below where they stopped , but above where i wanted to stop , have to grind the bed rails and have them respray . it is holding up well .

Here's a pic of my LineX. I had them 'wrap' around the corners a little farther than normal and also had the panel between the bumper & tailgate sprayed. $390 in SoCal.

I have the Armacoatings liner, which I was told is exactly the same as the Line-X, Armacoatings being started as a company after the founders of Line-X split up a few years ago (I am told). Anyway, I had it done in early April this year, long bed, fully over the rails all the way down to the point on the side of the bed where the last "sharp" angle is - about 2 inches down from the rail tops. Total cost was %375 in Sacramento, CA. I am going to get the rocker panels done this summer also.

24V - your recommendation to ask how many jobs they've done good. I remember reading that as a tip on many other subjects and I just totally forgot about that. THANKS!

Brian: Where did you get yours done? According to the Line-X web page, Bakersfield is the closest for me, but I'm always willing to drive a bit farther. I live in Ridgecrest, 1. 5 hrs north of Victorville or Lancaster.

Glow in the Dark would be Perma-Tech. Also they garentee in writing against any UV fading, thats the reason I went with Perma-Tech. The glow in the dark version runs about $1500..... needless to say I didn't try it... . not until I can see one in person.

Since this post is still alive... .

For those of you, like me, who just have a line-x for "looks" #ad
I recommend the line-x protectant/restorer. I've tried several different brands and this stuff works the best, lasts longer, and is easier to apply. I started using it on a 4yr. old Armacoat liner in another truck.

It brings the black back like new, and is not as slippery as other brands. I apply in about 20 min. about 2-3 times a year when I wax. One bottle is pricey at approx. $15, but it looks like it will do 10+ applications.

Just a word of warning. I saw a red truck with what looked like a Rhino lining this week. The red had faded out of the liner. It looked pale orange like that fake vomit. Unfortunately, they had the liner over the rails, so you could see vomit from a distance. #ad

All colored liners seem to fade, Mine is black, but they told me that colors WILL fade over time, depending on how much sun is around. They sell some sort of protectant spay that is similar to Aromor all, but obviously not as slippery that supposedly will cut down on fading, but i would think you would have to be applying it constantly to make a difference. I actually saw a truck with a Glow in the dark liner, i think it is a Line-X. Looked pretty cool.

Still more good information. I was thinking of getting a white color to match my white truck, but never thought about the pale color it would fade in to.

Guess I'll go with the black since that should continue to match even as it fades. And after looking at some pictures of other jobs, I will be getting the bed rail tops done.
