Trans Swap

TST #5 plate question

I just upgraded my stage IV at its first yearly service. I added a billet input shaft and upgraded the valve body. Not that the old valve body was bad mind you it's just that ATS has continued to improve their product and I wanted to try it out.

Let me start out by describing my view of the ideal shifting transmission. I want the transmission to be like a gentle giant capable of being polite and well mannered yet having the capability of using its might when needed. I want it to be well mannered for daily driving, strong and firm when towing and mean as sin when some ricer needs an education.

The ATS stage IV does a great job of being that gentle giant. At light throttle the shifts are held long enough to allow the turbo to spool without the shift being harsh. At moderate throttle the shifts are more pronounced and still not harsh. Now if you stick your foot in it there can be no doubt in anyone's mind when a shift happens it is instant and rock solid. I can’t leave out the torque converter because it is impressive in it’s own right. The TripleLok converter is a well-engineered product that matches the torque curve of the Cummins engine. The CNC machined stator is giving fantastic fluid coupling because the RPM only drops 250 when it goes into lock-up.

Clint and the ATS staff are great people and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. If I had to do it all over again I would go with ATS without hesitation.

ProespectorTim, do you know any of the Hankins there in Falcon? I just installed comp boxes and gauges in their trucks while mine was at ATS, they've been friends for a long time. The one with the automatic I'm sure will be visiting ATS soon:eek:

That is a really good description Edward. I think you nailed it! This shifting pattern of the ATS is one of the reasons I continue to be happy with my trans.

If I am going leisurely down the road, the trans will shift leisurely. But if I stomp it, it will stomp back!!! You gotta love it!

I don't know of another Perf. Trans builder out there who has constantly improved their product like Clint & Co. have. I would also go with them again in a heartbeat.

Same here. I started out with the torque converter and valve body with the mechanical commander. It made a big difference until I blew my transmission . I then upgraded to the full stage four with an updated valve body. It changed my truck into a monster!
