I am getting POD's and want to know what to expect.

A brief history. I had stock rebuilt injectors and a turned up pump in October, 2006 when the pump tore itself apart. I had a shop rebuild the pump and they claim to have set it to 190 HP settings. However, it does not feel as strong as the pump was prior to failure. Possibly because the pump that failed was turned up too far.

Anyway, the timing is set to 1. 6 mm and everything else is stock. The shop that is sending the injectors says they are shipping with middle thickness washers (040) and these are the ones to use.

The shop said to see how the transmission feels because often they have to turn the pumps down for these injectors. They also claim that excessive smoke is not a problem.

Do you all think I will be happy with these injectors with the truck as it is, or will I need to make improvements to my exahust, intake, turbo, etc?

Brian,

We need to talk. You can give me spring/ball joint R&R details and I can give you the inside scoop on POD tests/tune/usage yadda, yadda.

Don't use the med washers man. They will work, but give you m,ore idle (grey) smoke and retard timing even more so.

The thin washers will position the tip into the bowl the best. not perfect, but then the tips are not for our application anyhow. I can give you the specs on the washers and the install kit.

Who told you to use the med washers???

What Scott said. The thin washers are the ones to use. I can tune almost all the haze out of mine with those installed.

You have a 5 speed, but my auto in gear at stop lights with POD's, and . 020 washers will HAZE horribly non stop. Wasn't as bad in my 5 speed when I ran them, but YOU probly won't be happy with them as much as I see you post those CB Parker type threads:eek:;):-laf. They'll smoke at idle, light throttle, full throttle, cruise, your fuel pressure gauge will peg the zero, your MPG's will go in the can, etc etc etc. .

Yes sir. Loads of idle smoke. Loads. When I turn on the a/c at a stop light, and the wind is blowing from behind, the idle smoke blows into the intersection, directly over my cab roof. I like it. But some folk in some places, will not.

Yes, there is idle smoke and with my 5sp it smokes more just before the turbo spools up esp. in 3rd. They help discourage tailgaters a lot more when I get on it at any speed. No one injector can do everything, so you have to decide what is most important for you.

How would a set of Bosch PW nozzles compare to the POD's?

Does the 50 RWHP of the POD's mean with a "stock" pump?

My pump is supposedly set to 190 HP assuming stock injectors.

Brian

I'd say a set of Bosch PW injectors or the replacement (after Bosch tripled the price on PWs) 190s would work just fine for you.

Daniel,

Yesterday afternoon I retarded the timing on the pump and it put a smile on my face. The smoothness, power, and 15 psi or slightly more of boost all came back. Hopefully it will stay this way. Then I probably won't need to deal with the POD's.

If my pump is set to 190 HP settings, I am wondering how many HP the POD's would give me? the PW's?

Brian

190 isnt that far above the stock 160, so I'd say 30-35 with the PW/ 190s; 50-55 with PODs. You can get 50 more HP out of it with the stock injectors, though.
