And its a automatic transmission. I just installed the transmission temp gauge and the weight I am pulling is not to heavy. Its a enclose car trailer fiberglass on a steel frame. In the trailer is a Model T 1911 Tourpedo Roadster weighing about 1800 pounds with tools and extra parts. So total weight about 4000 at the most. Will it hurt to pull in overdrive if the oil temp stays normal about 160 or so?I never pulled with a automatic transmission before in a Dodge. My other Dodge's were stick. Hope this transmission holds up? :confused: Any of you pull with a automatic transmission in a Dodge?

I've had my 250* gauge pegged a 250* for over an hour last winter when I was plowing. Over 44,000 miles on the clock and still shifts fine. I also pull alot of trailers ranging from 2-13,000 lbs. on and off road. You wont even feel a 4K trailer. Just keep the fluid fresh and not burnt and it'll last for a long time.

I don't know what the hills are like there in Pa. An answer to your question is yes, and no. 1. Yes, You'll have a little more wind resistance w/that trailer so if it feels like your in and out of lockup, or lugging the engine, or steep hills at slow/slower ( behind traffic) speeds, then use tow/haul, the extra coulpe bucks in fuel won't make any difference. 2. No,flatter terrian, steady speeds, no headwinds etc, you should be able to use O/D, you'll get the feel for the auto, using common sense, which you have already demonstrated by getting the guage. My . 04 cents.

Thanks for the come back on the automatic

I would not think of pulling a trailer without the transmission temp gauge. I have not as yet put a temp gauge on the motor home yet, but will. Most of you know big truck has temp gauges on the rear end, transmission and even the oil temp on the engine. Reading the past reports on the automatic transmission problems I just wanted to be safe. I try to take care of my trucks. It pays off in the long run. I am past the hot rod time in my life.

Just got my 2006 and it is my first auto. I have a temp gage that I intend to install but do not know where. Is the a thread or somewhere else to find the info ??

Thanks, Bear

Well after hours of reading and using the search key, I decided to use the hot line that runs to the trans cooler. I also found a great source for this line, the price is right too! I paid just $65 plus shipping and I don't need to send my old line back to them.

Don't say that. :{

You are not past the hot rod time, you have just refocused your time, energy, interest's into other area's. The older we get, the more hobbie's (interest's we have). :D

And we have learned that we do not ALWAYS need to be at 100% BTTW at all times. :cool:

I guess we have turned into sleepers.....

In more than one way. :-laf
