Thinking about a 2013 361 REQS

Roadtrip to Arizona!

Since I have a 28' TT I had decided I would take it to Columbus with me, even tho I will be travelling alone. I had toyed with the idea of buying a camper instead as 25' is better than 53' for this trip. My wife actually thought that made sense ( huh?). I removed the canopy and the box mounted fuel tank and drove down to the Calgary area on the weekend and bought a 1989 9'9 Security Penthouse model. They were built in Western Canada just like my TT was. The guy needed it gone by this weekend as he had bought a new 5er. The best deals are usually off season. :D It has a toilet and shower and they just added A/C last summer. I have to do some maintenance to it but my friend is an RV tech so that comes in handy. Even tho there are other trips that the camper will come in handy for I will probably sell it when I get back. After all it is 23 years old and I don't have a spot to store it. I can always buy another one later.

The one thing I have found out about doing mods to your truck is it quite often bits you back later. I bought a set of used camper brackets from my friend, as he has an 08 3500. They are Tork Lift with the shock type tie downs. I added a set of ladder bars last summer and wouldn't you know it the front mounts are right where the front camper brackets go. I was able to make them fit. I have an after market back bumper so the rear camper brackets, which go around the stock bumper brackets, won't fit either. To get the unit home I used HD ratchet straps but will build proper brackets for the trip. If it's not one thing it's another. Good thing I didn't buy full length running boards.

BTW When getting in or out of the truck with a camper on you have to watch your head #@$%!

I've already called Ruth a couple of weeks ago and booked a spot. I left her a message the other day telling her I wasn't bringing the long TT in case she wanted to move me to a shorter spot to leave more room for the larger units. Shad

I have a few questions about a Truck Campers. I know you have travelled in one and was wondering about things like fuel stops. I figure I will have to stop about every 400 miles for fuel. I know it would be more often with the TT but I have a 75 gal box tank which sure is nice. Also lack of storage compared to the box in my truck :) There are definite advantages like length, especially on a ferry, and better mpg. The replacement tanks like Titan are expensive just to get 20 more gal.

This trip it will just be me so not too bad. I will just have to live with the limitations and enjoy the trip. Thanks Shad

BTW what happened to my picture?

Cummins Plant tour

We are looking forward to the trip to Columbus. Have a 38ft Mobile Suite towed by a 2008 Ram dooley. Just finished the 67500 mileEGR cleaning and

that was a real nukle buster. I would trade trucks rather than do it again. Saved me a lot of money.

:{Oo. :)

Since I'm from Canada and have never been in the US much, other than flying to some place, I have been spending a lot of time on Google Maps planning my route there and back as well as checking out what there is to see. My trip will last only 10 days ( 4 of them in IN ) so I will be doing more driving than exploring. One thing I found interesting ( and sometimes frustrating since I don't know all the state codes ) is all the cities with the same names. No sence of adventure when it came to naming new cities way back when huh :D It's not like they could email each other and we do have some places with the same name in Canada too.

This trip will serve as an exploratory trip as I will travel thru 9 different States and 2 Provinces. I figure I will do about 7000 kms or about 4500 miles by the time I get back home. Good thing I get lot of days off. :) The family wants to go places during the summer as well. Shad

This will be our 2nd trip to the plant and we are looking forward to it. There will be two of us in Mobile Suites with white ram dooleys. Also Jim Anderson, TDR
writer will be next to us at Ceraland CG Sure hope we have a good turn-out there.

Looking forward to another good time. We sure enjoyed the trip, tour, food and fellowship the last time we went.
