I was on the road on a 4 hour trip this saturday, and about 5 am while on the highway all of a sudden my speedometer went from 75mph-to zero, and the Odometer ALSO STOPPED working!... yes, cruise control also went south. I made it to my destination, and went out again, was driving like 55mph and all of a sudden everything started working again... I musta lost about 150 miles on my Odometer, but no big deal really to me, just baffled on why it did this? anybody else have this problem??

Try checking the distance/speed senser. Might have a loose conection or just plain wore out. It controls the speedometer and cruise control, It's located on the tail, drivers side.

They are a 60. 00 at the dealership.

Greg,

I remember some of the guys having a problem like this and it was moisture or dirt in the plug at the speed sensor. take it apart, clean it real good and put it back together. If I were doing it, I think I'd try a little dielectric grease on the contacts.

speed sensor

ok. . so where exactly is the speed sensor again?where in the tail is it? and i wonder why, still that it would just come back on after hours of driving

Cummnzpwr,

I've got a small nick in one of my wires that causes my speedo to stop or just jump around while I'm driving. Sometimes it will come back in a few minutes or not until the next time at the wheel. It just hasn't been a priority for me yet. Just installed my new 3" exhaust from Jannetty Racing and love to hear the turbo spooling.

Hey Gregg, I had this exact problem with mine. It started out happening about once very other month or so. Yopu would be driving down the road, and wham 100 -0-100 and back to normal speed. The rate of incidence increased very rapidly to the point of the speedo not working. I cleaned all connections, speed sensors and what not. This resulted in my speedo working but not my odometer. I found this out because my milage dropped from steady 18. 5 to steady 15 mpg. After changing all fluids and checking EVERYTHING I could think of I filled up and drove approx. 20 miles and registered no miles.

Moral of story was I ordered a Instrument cluster from a wrecking yard for 35. 00 and installed the Head unit ( this is what they called the milage cluster thingy  ). Viola, milage was back to 18. 5 steady.

P. S. Only thing that has not worked correctly since installing new head unit was the cruise. It also went south when the speedo problem first showed up. Hope this helps.
