My GDP kit is due to arrive in the next day or so and since my fuel-presure gauge reads between 0 and 3 most of the time I'm going to take this weekend and make it my to-do-project. I can't find any "install" instructions on their website but I remember reading in another TDR post (somewhere) that you have to drop the fuel tank... So... You guys that have done it... What's the best/easiest/fastest way to do the tank-drop (and yes... having the tank near empty is the first thing I'll do). Are there any other install tricks or "skeletons-in-the-closet" I should know about? TIA guys!

while you have the talk off click on the link in my sig and get the tank vent mod. Well worth the money and does require the tank to be dropped.

You shouldn't have to drop the fuel tank for your application. The only 04. 5's that do are the one's who got the in tank pump fix from a dealer to replace the original filter housing mounted lift pump. If you didn't get the in tank update then you don't have to worry about dropping your tank. The 05-07 truck came from the factory with the in tank pump and do have to drop their tank.

I would call GDP as I've heard they just leave the in tank pump... .

I just ran the little W in parallel with my stock pump, wired it the same way. That way when your low on fuel... you don't have to worry about her cutin out with the new pick up line in GDP's kit, and you don't have to drop the tank.

Actually the GDP kit calls for a new pickup tube for the Walbro so you have to drop the tank on the 05-07. The 03-04. 5 uses the stock pickup.

Talk to REB at Browns Diesel, he set me up with a Walbro pump kit for my 05, that all you do is put it in line with the pump in the tank.

Bro, call GDP. In some of the 2006 trucks they were having issues so they are now leaving the stock in tank hardware intact... ...

I guess I'm dense. Sorry if I'm not getting this. So you can put a new pickup tube in without dropping the tank or you don't need a new pickup tube because all of the sudden the Walbro can draw through the stocker?

Yes the Walbro can draw through the stock pump. Not saying that it is the only way to do it, but it has worked well for many of us. The only issue that you could run into, is if your stock pump decides to poop out.

Sorry for the delayed reply guys. I'm still fighting my way back from a bad case of the flu.

Some of our dealers have tried using the in-tank pump to feed the new pump with varying results. The flow match is good but we still have the foaming problem created by the in-tank unit at low fuel levels. This causes surging and introduces foam at fuel levels that are below the top lip of the bowl on the factory sending unit. Last week we saw this on a bone stock '03 that had the in-tank conversion under warranty and no mods at all. The odd part is that it doesn't seem to effect all trucks.

In my opinion the stand alone pickup tube is still the best solution at this point.

Thanks for the tips-n-info guys. I DO NOT have the in-tank pump... Still got the factory on-the-block lift-pump. QUESTION: Some of you are real "sold" on the vent-mod. Is there any "other" reason for going with the mod other than being able to put more fuel in the tank at fill-ups? I really prefer to keep the air space... Here in Vegas it get's upward of 115 degreees+ in the summer and having room for the fuel to expand seems like a good idea given my local weather conditions. I'm all ears!

(Side Note:) Richard from GDP called me on my cell phone personally to let me know when my kit had shipped. I sounded non-chalant to him (probably) but I was shocked and superbly pleased. That's customer service 5-by-5. All good. Thanks Richard!)

Richard is a super Guy. HE is one you discuss your application need, HE is one that ships it, HE is one you talk to if problems arise. AND HE IS ONE WHO ANSWERS PHONE. I wish everyone I did business with was as Professional, knowledgable and resposive as Rich is. -----If you want to keep air in your tank, don't bother with vent kit. I jast hate getting fuel and like to top it off, wish it had a 75 gallon under bed tank. I also like topping it to brim to check accurat mpg.
