IPhone gurus needed

Just got home from the Eye Doctor for the first time in my whole life. The wife made my appointment. You think I'd take better care of myself. My right eye had been twitching on and off for a year or so and spotting the prairie dogs was getting a little tougher even with optics. I shoot with my right eye and thats the side that is far sighted. The Doc sent me home in contacts but I can not stand to touch my eyes. Any tips for contacts? So the question is for everyday use glasses or contacts?

You will get over the touching your eye thing. Remember, you're not really touching it. You have a layer of solution there. Conacts are worth it if they are well fitted and the correct prescription. You should try several brands.

I've needed glasses since I was very young. Over the years, I've experimented on and off with contacts and have never become very comfortable with them. The last 10 years or so, I've gone exclusively to glasses. I got sick of taking care of the contacts and I was always one of those who would forget to take them out until my eyes got irritated.

If you do end up going with glasses, I highly recommend that you buy a good pair of glasses with good frames and opt for the high end coated lenses. There's nothing worse than a cheap pair of glasses that either scratch easily or fall apart all the time.

The doctor set me up with a set I can sleep in. At work I have to be ready at all hours. I might just get a set of glasses also. Had to take the contacts out this evening and wow when I took one out and looked back in the mirror I felt a little sick. Crazy with your eyes playing tricks on you!

I've always had glasses, since I got my first pair in 2nd grade. With all of the dust and crap with livestock, they are the best way to go.

Titanium frames are the way to go. The hold up the best. Also, I prefer the Transitions/photo grey lenses. no need for sunglasses. They change with the light. The new ones work MUCH better than the old ever did.

Accuvue

Before I had PRK done on both of my eyes, I wore the Accuvue disposible contacts. I'd wear then for two or three days, take them out every night and just wear my spare glasses if I needed to get up in the middle of the night for something, and never had a problem. I would not wear contacts to sleep. Not only do your eyes need to 'breathe' but leaving contacts in overnight drastically raises your risk for a nasty eye infection or waking up with contact lens floating around on your eyeball when it slips off the iris/pupil and you can't get to it from your eye opening (that is NOT fun!).

One other thing with contacts that I can't emphasize enough: MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN before you touch a contact or your eye!!

Regarding the laser eye surgery. I regret it. Although it's left me with 20/15 distance vision, I am so farsighted now that I can't use a computer or read a book without wearing reading glasses and lots of light!

I wish I would have just left my eyes alone and stuck with contacts/glasses.

When I got my first contacts many years ago it took me a week of trying to get them in.

Now I don't think about it.

I will hate it when I have to go back to glasses. So much so I now have a multi focus lens in my left eye so I don't have to use reading glasses. Left eye has astigmatism so it's not much good for distance anyway.

My wife wears ONE contact only for reading (called monovision). She loves not having to look for her reading glasses.

Yooper you might consider one contact.

Lasik ten years ago. Never looked back. Was already into bifocals. Had both eyes tuned for distance, keep a pair of readers handy EVERYWHERE. Wife did the same eleven years ago (the guinea pig). Also uses readers, but lower power. When I use hers, I generally have to stack them. After ten years, I can still count pine needles on a bough 150 yards away. Your mileage may vary.

A guy came into my office yesterday with a full size print run off on 8. 5 x 11 paper. I stacked up 3 pairs of readers and saw stuff he missed and couldn't see on the micro print. It's fun freaking people out with multiple readers. Really gets attention when I stick in some of the wifes with sequins and butterflies. The joys of aging.

I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years. I could never go back to glasses. They irritate your nose and slide down when you're sweaty in the summer, they fog up when you go from cold to warm, you have to worry about breaking them, etc. I've been wearing extended-wear disposable lenses since they were first introduced. You can them 24/7 for 4 weeks. I take may lenses out one weekend a month and wear glasses for a day or two before putting in a fresh set. I've never had an eye infection in over 20 years.

I hear you Royk that's why I have not had lasik ... I keep my contacts in 24/7 for 6 or more weeks, go without over night, then another new pair.

Even kept them in for a round of "pinkeye" this winter... LOL

I popped them babes in like an old pro this morning! It sure is great driving to work before the sun comes up. Think I will stick with the contacts.

No glasses or contacts yet!

When I was 29 I drove down to Ontario for work. What I did was to exercise my eyes was to look left ,right, up, and down and hold for a secand or two. I did this 3 or 4 times a day for the 10 days that I was driving and that stopped my eyes from twitching till about 5 years ago. My eyes have changed in the last year and now I do need glasses my arms arent' long enough now. This does work and good luck you dont' need glasses yet.

It took me 3 rounds with contacts before I finally stuck with them. Unless I just have no other choice, I will never go back to glasses. If I could afford the lasik, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm already having to wear reading glasses.

My wife had PRK Laser and has real good distance and needs readers for small print. She can read computer type fine. . it is just the smaller type on products and such. If you have a problem with vision when doing the laser, you can go back for enhancements.

I have 20/15 and no problems so far. I drive truck for a living so that is a blessing

I've stuck with glasses since 5th grade. They've saved my eyes on a couple of occasions, glasses are much easier to replace than eyeballs for those of who like shooting, tinkering, etc. Just get safety lenses and you are good to go.

When I started out, until I was in junior year of high school I had those thick black frames like Buddy Holly wore. They were made of indestructible nylon like those unbreakable combs :{ and worked great in football games. Only problem was the little strap gizmo would slip off the earpieces after a good hit and your glasses would end up in the back of your helmet :-laf

With those old glass lens specs you could get a Photogray transitions-type lens that would turn almost completely black. My coach used to make fun of me, said I not only had Ray Charles' sunglasses but played like a blind man to boot :-laf :-laf

Parental Tip: those Buddy Holly glasses were very effective birth control too :{
