Does anyone own or at least shot a Glock 37 (. 45 GAP)? I'm seriously looking at buying one soon. All the reviews and articles i've read about it seem to be pretty positive. Brother-in-Law had a compact Glock . 45 and it was too small for my hand with the amount of recoil it had. #ad

Here is my thoughts on the GAP. Is it a bad round? No. Had the Glock rep come to our agency where we shot a couple of thousand rounds courtesy of them to make the decision which model we wanted. Our selection was narrowed down to the glocks based on price and still getting a high quality weapon. It shot as well as the others. We were geared towards the 22 . 40 cal from the getgo but wanted to give the others a chance. The advantage is having 45 cal in a 40 frame with high capacity. Downfalls: A little slower a little less energy and more money for the proprietary cartridges. Was never a Glock fan. H&K's are better but more money. If you like it get it. Still a very good and reliable weapon.

Glocks are good nice fitting guns but they are sure not pretty and too whimpy for me.

If I was a cop I would prefer a . 357 revolver or a . 45 1911... Being one of the good old boys.

The . 45 gap is a good round, however, it is pricey. Stick with a 40SW round. I hate 9mm, too small. . 45 is the best only in ACP though :)

I think I would stay with my Sig P226 in . 40 before going with a Glock or anything chambered in . 45 GAP.

My first choice would be a Commander sized 1911 in . 45 ACP.

It took me alooong time to decide to make the switch from my . 357 for my duty weapon. Nothing beats the first six rounds from a . 357. The 1911 are great weapons but most agencies are only permitting double action only pistols for liability reasons. I am very happy with my current weapon, an H&K USP in 45 acp.

H&K is a very accuate weapon, ive shot it before.

It is sad since the normal 1911 is just about as safe as you can get. Cocked and locked, it will not fire unless dropped (series 80's cannot and series 70's can be modded to not fire when dropped)

I love 1911's if i was a cop i would carry the 1911 or revolver or i wouldnt be working for them. I heard a lot of departments frown on 6 shooters now too.

A comment on the SIG, nice built gun but one flaw, hard to reach safety in a combat situation and the slide is prone to slicing a hand open... Glocks and XD's have smooth slides...

Sage, whats your backup gun? Seecamp . 32 or a S&W . 38 revolver?

I don't believe the p226 has a safety on the dao model. I know it doesn't on the regular DA model. Here's a link to the owners manual for the 220 series and it says no decocker on the dao models and makes no mention of a safety - http://www.again.net/~steve/pdf/sig_p220to245.pdf#search='sig%20sauer%20dao%20safety' .

I'll second the vote for the Sig. I shot combat comp. in a local club with a P228 (9mm minor cal. ). That was the sweetest shooting weapon I've ever owned. Sent it back to Sig and had a trigger job done on it (3 lbs instead of 9... what a difference). I also always liked the P229 in . 40. I just really think Sigs are one of the best non-custom weapons available.

Carl, I agree. I own and have shot many hand guns and my Sig SP2340 is the best gun I've ever pruchased. Smooth, well balanced and very accurate. Oh, it has a de-cocker and no, it doesn't have a safety.

I LOVE my P228 - it's my "go to" gun. It's the one I carry and it's also the one that sits on the nightstand (trajicon night sights on it). All my other guns are play toys (or hunting guns) only. My Sig is both a play gun and the one I put my and my families lives behind.

When I quit competition, I sold my 228... worst thing I ever did... I really liked that gun. I had the slide hard-chromed. Not only handled great, but looked great too.....

I've already got the S&W 1911, and of course, love it. Told my buddy at work i was thinking about getting another gun, and he mentioned the Glock 37. The Suncoast Gun show is coming to tampa on the 8th, i'll go and check out a few you all mentioned. My 'ol man suggested saving for a www.wilsoncombat.com but that is big bucks there. Thanks for all the input. #ad

I'll take a swing...

. 45GAP is a round with good intentions, but it fails miserably. The idea was to have a round with . 45ACP power, but small grip and magazine capacity of the 9mm/. 40SW lines. Have you seen the magazine capacity of the 37/38/39? it's atrocious. Some of them don't even reach 10rds in a mag. For that few rounds, get yourself a quality 1911.

The perfect balance of power/size has already been achieved - the . 40SW. It's not perfect, but it does have good power and good compact size, and here's the biggest catch- unlike the . 45GAP, . 40SW is available at every gun shop in the country. You don't want to buy a pistol in . 45GAP only to have it pull a 10mm and ammo dry up and only available from online sources or the occasional gunshop. I look for an ammunition that is available in many different loadings, from many different manufacturers, b/c competition breeds quality inreases and cost decreases.

I personally have Glocks in 9mm, but I plan on getting at least one . 40SW. I liked the CONCEPT of the . 45GAP, but when I saw how few rounds it could hold, how it was still too big to fit directly into the frame/slide size of the 17/22/31 series (That was one of hte points, reduce manufacturing needs by making as few blank slide sizes as possible), and the fact that no major LE agency has adapted . 45GAP (leading to its commercial demise/unavailability, mark my words) the numbers just don't add up.

Kudos to Glock for hte effort, just poor execution. Check out www.glocktalk.com, it's the TDR of glocks.

I'd stick with a G22/23
