Help please,

I have a 2001 Ram 2500 that has a broken glove box light bracket. This bracket is not replaceable, you must replace the dash to correct this problem. Has anyone else ever had this problem with their truck? Is there a way of preventing this from happening again? And last but not least, I'm nervous about letting the dealership replace the dash hull. I can think of a thousand problems I may have. What do you guys think????????

Mine did the same thing, broke off.

I decided that in ZERO way are they going to repalce the dash for a glove box light. What I have WORKS, and they aren't going to have the opportunity to "fix" it.

I put a minimag light in the glove box to use.

On the '01 I had this also happened. It was due to some wingnut overtightening the screws that hold the dash and breaking the plastic.

Only advice I have mirrors what rweis said, get some kind of flashlight.

I haven't had this specific problem. At least, I don't think I have. In other cases of plastic part breakage, I have had excellent success in repairing them with plumbers' ABS cement. Where I can, I will add a piece of scrap ABS plastic as a brace, a reinforcement, or a gusset. So far, where I have done this, the repair has been long-term. Not all the plastics will be ABS. In many cases, I can't tell. But I have found that the ABS cement has sufficient solvents to bond the parts.

For what it's worth.

Ditto to what Matt said. Mine broke and I just took it out applied some cement and put it back in. I only tightened the screw to hold the light bracket in enough to hold it and have had no trouble with it since.
