I got a kick out of this one.

One of the 1st gen trucks we have, a 1990 came back from Motor Pool today.

It now has a “glowplug switch” on the switch panel. And a label over the steering wheel that says “To Start turn key to on and hold glow plug switch for 15 seconds” or something to that effect.

I took a look and the wired the switch to the grid heater relay. I guess they couldn’t figure another way to make them work.

Glowplugs… haha.

A chevy guy worked on it!!!

I really miss the glow plug thing, when I had the 80 chevy/oldsmobile truck. I got to work on it a LOT!!!

I've got a friend up the street with a cherry '91 CTD. He insists to this day that his truck has glowplugs.

Yea I know that problem. No one would give anyone a good trade so they could get rid of them.

My father bought one of those in 79. Eather him or my brother or sister could call the dealer and tell then come get this POS it won't start. Then hang up without giving a name to them. In 30 minutes the dealership wrecker would be there. :-laf :-laf

My father traded it to a Ford dealer when it was 11 months and 3 days into it warrenty period. He lost 6K on that truck.

In those 11 months it had 4 injection pumps, 6 sets of injectors, 5 sets of glow plugs. Of the 11 months it spent a good 5 of them in the service dept.

I had a kid (behind the counter) at AutoZone in FtCollins several years back swear up and down that my Cummins had glowplugs. I offered him $100 apiece for each glowplug he found. I finally chased him out from under the hood after 10 minutes and informed him it had a grid heater system- far superior to glowplugs. :-laf

My dad had a friend that had a 5. 7 conversion in a truck. Truck had about 120K on it. They were driving along and dad asked him if he had much trouble out of the truck, guy said nope, been a good truck. Within 5 minutes it was on the side of the road with a thrown rod I believe. LOL
