Dodge's unfair advantage
here's another quickie from car-truck.com:

TEARS
It started moments after Bill Elliott took the pole for this weekends Daytona 500. The Ford and GM teams immediately started crying that the Dodge teams had been sandbagging in practice and that the Intrepid R/T has an unfair advantage.

Elliott's lackluster performance in Sunday's Bud Shootout didn't seem to quell their tears. After the event NASCAR impounded one of each brands race cars for testing in the wind tunnel. Though NASCAR did not release the results from the test, both the Ford and GM camps clam that Dodge has an unfair advantage.

Anyone who follows Winston Cup racing should know better. NASCAR is all about parity. The sanctioning body will never let one make dominate the series. A look at the qualifying order after Saturday's session bares this out with each of the automakers represented in the top ten.

Despite this fact the Buzz in the Cup garage is that NASCAR wants Dodge to win the 500 and is giving them a superior package in order to ensure their victory. It's a ridiculous notion . . . but I'm not surprised. It will be interesting to see how the Intrepids perform in today's Gatorade Twin 125 qualifying races.

Anyone who follows Winston Cup Racing should think about what they're watching. In road racing, we call it a "spec racer series". . that is, everyone has the exact same car, tires, brakes, etc and its up to the driver to win it or not. Now, what NASCAR has done to this sport, er. . excuse me, not sport - SHOW - is transform what stock car racing used to be into WWF with cars. The outcomes are pre-disposed and the off-track antics are all carefully orchestrated to make the fans tune in next week to see if Billy-Bob is really gonna smack Bubba in the mouth for bumping him in turn 3.
I just dont see the point of NASCAR. Indentical cars, going round and round... new, useable technology is non-existant. Where is the V8 rear drive Stratus at my dealer? especially one thats 135 inches long? Or a 2 door, V8 rear drive Taurus? You get my point... now, as far as the whinning over the new Dodge entries... recall the T-Bird when it came out... some crap about the roofline being too short?
If you guys are true fans of auto racing, tune into Speedvision and follow Sebring 12 hour, the LeMans 24 hour, the Speedvision Cup series, etc. Fair rules for all, REAL production-based cars, and win on sunday, sell on monday still means something.
