alright. my dad made a "T" adaptor out of hydraulic fittings for the sender unit for my transmission temp guage. instead of cutting the line, he put the whole thing right out of the tranmission- and so pushed the line back to the other side of the fitting. alright- let's head to Billy's house to help him with his snowmobiles.

it didn't shift right (too restrictive?). then, about 1/2 mile from billy's house, the transmission started slipping. i got it up to 30mph and then coasted it in neutral to bill's driveway (trans temp now at 230*). come to find out, the "T" fitting broke (must have been too heavy)--atf spilling everywhere.

we did our best to put the lines back to stock (1/2" inverted flare to the line and fitting). well, that 1/2" inverted flare is now only being held in by 3 threads instead of about 8 (that's where it broke)--gotta find a new one tomorrow.

well, bill only had GM atf (that has the dextron 3 and micron stuff). 3 1/2 quarts later is was up and running to normal level. by the time this thing is over i will have put about 200 miles on my transmission. 70 miles since tonight and things seem alright. what are the consequences of having that fluid in my transmission? do i need to have a full flush soon? will there be any damage?

sorry for the long post.

thanks, Tom

Contact Bill Kondolay at dtt. He can advise you about the fluid problem. Seems to me that they use the cheap stuff when rebuilding a trans cause they recomend changing it out at 10 to 20k after rebuild. Just to get rid of the debris after the trans rebuild.

Your friend Dave Gardner.

I wouldnt worry about it unless you get a shudder, when shifting or going into lockup, you should pull your pan anyway after your fiasco, and check for excess trash, for signs of permanent dmamge, just refill with +3 fluid, you should be fine.

When Dave Goerends built my new TC, and went through the transmission, they refilled the system with Dexron III. I ask about Chryslers ATF+3 or whatever, and this is what he told me. Chrysler has like two or three vehicles (small cars) that actually require the special Chrysler the +3 or 4. The truck transmissions actually do not require it, but to make it simple, they put the blanket requirement for all their transmissions, to make it a no-brainer. Mine's doing fine on Dex III, and it's a lot cheaper. He also recommended adding "Lube guard". I got it at NAPA.
