I made the plunge just two weeks ago and have been thoroughly pleased and amazed by my new 2002 Duramax. I bought a new 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins back in July and was very disappointed after the first week. The thing was so noisy my wife refused to go anywhere with me, it rode like something off the Oregon Trail, and just wasn't what I had heard that it would be. Granted, the thing could pull like there was no tomorrow but I was very disappointed. I put up with it for a couple of months and then decided it was time to opt for a truck that I didn't have to wear earplugs for the entire time I was on the highway - yes, I had 'em in the truck, wore 'em all the time, and they were there when I traded it in for the next poor fella.

Anyway, I took a bit of a beating on the trade (not too bad) and ended up with a 2002 Crew Cab Duramax Long Bed - what a ride. It tows, it hauls, it moves, it scoots and best of all it doesn't require earplugs! Better yet, the wife now rides with me and has even driven it a couple of times - that could be a bad thing should she take too much of a liking to it but I'd rather have a second Duramax sitting in the driveway than the alternative.

Man is this thing quick! I've got the Allison auto and have been amazed by the quickness and power. The Dodge had the HO/6-speed manual and was okay but nothing like this thing. Anyone out there reading this who is thinking about buying a Duramax should purchase with 100% confidence. I've had no problems with mine and have been amazed! And yes, last week I took a new Dodge with the "new" Cummins out for a test drive (I've got a brother who sells Dodges) and it was quiet. But once you climbed into the cab and started going down the road, that echo chamber of a cab started to give me flashbacks to the one I had owned. SOOOOO glad I own a Duramax!!!

Man, I can't beleive you saw something like that on the GM site.

I bought my Dodge because I wanted a TRUCK. If I wanted an SUV with a bed I would have maybe bought a Cheby or GM.

I hate when someone says that a truck doesn't ride smooth enough or is loud. Its a freekin truck, it's not suposed to ride like your wife's BMW, or what ever those yuppie types that buy Chebys drive.

They can bad mouth my Dodge all they want but just wait till I see one of those SUVs on an uphill grade with a load and then see what they think. ;)

Poor deafened baby, and the wife wouldn't ride with him. So?

I'm sure we could provide him with a ride in a really loud truck. Too bad about the wife.

He'll be in an Avvylunch next.

What is the board address? Lets flame 'em!! :D

I bought my truck and it just wasn't loud enough!! Couple of stacks on my reg cab fixed that. I cannot believe he wore ear plugs. I bet he sits down when he pisses too!

I posted on that thread, with what I thought was completely objective information, and immediately I was labeled as a Chevy-trashing Dodge owner. I should have posted without my signature, and not mentioned that I have a CTD, cause despite the message my post carries, it seems that they all jump to conclusions about me as a person:rolleyes:

Man, if that guy purchased a CTD and did not know before hand it is noisy there is somthing wrong with him. I wouldn't worry too much about his post, he sounds a bit unstable. LOL

I jsut thought of something else

If the guy would get his coconuts back from his wife he might have been able to keep the good truck. :D

Just a thought. ;)

Darrell

I'm still trying to understand what the problem is about the wife not wanting to ride with him. Isn't that a blessing in disguise?

Oo.

I would think so.

The first dodge 4X4 I had. Every time it looked like snow or even just heavy clouds. My truck would go to work with her. (She liked driving it).

Now with my current ride she doesn't like it as a driver or riding in it. So its all mine. :D

She has to come with me on a 2k drive in a month or so. She is realy thrilled about the upcoming event. :D

I pick what I want to drive. If the wife doesn't like to ride in it she can follow in her car.

I can't believe a guy would complain about the noise! One of the two complaints I have with our truck is that it is too quiet and the other is that it doesn't smoke. I guess he probaly wouldn't like smoke either.

Darrell summed up the answer to this question  Real men drive CTD's. Girley men drive Maxipads :-laf

My wife digs the ride and the noise. She even talks on the CB when she's in it. :D

That dork should have bought a car. Oh wait, I guess he actually did. :D

Car= smooth, quiet, cushy driving vehicle.

Truck= Rough driving, noisy BEAST!

I've never owned a "Car", and I never will, even if it has four-wheel drive and a Diesel.

In South Carolina, if a vehicle has a CVWR of over 7800 (I think), you get a plate that has the word "Truck" on it.
