Why didn't Ford make an Inline 6????

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black - the '02 Ram 1500s and '03 Ram 2500/3500s are the UGLIEST vehicles I've ever seen. I would NEVER have thought it was possible for a great-looking vehicle to be so thoroughly FU**ED up in just 1 model year. Right now, the Super Duty has it all over the Ram & Silverado/Sierra as far as looks are concerned.

I saw that post over there. I couldn't believe what I was reading. At first I thought maybe the poster was a Tundra owner trying to make an American name truck look bad. What a shame.

Back to the noisy truck topic. I too had a Dodge Cummins that was too noisy. My '95 was fine for noise level and comfort on long trips. When I traded for a '98 12v 5spd/4. 10, that all changed. The first time I loaded up our travel trailer and headed out, it was a headache in the making. Something changed. It sounded like it had solid motor mounts from in the cab. The dealership couldn't figure it out and I tried everything I could. The front of the truck didn't fit together exactly right and lead me to wonder if it was damaged during assembly or something and a twist or bind was causing the dreaded drone under load. All mounts and cab pads checked out ok. I drove a couple of other 5spds that didn't sound like the Cummins was mounted to the floorboard in the cab. At 89k troublefree noisy miles, I traded for our '01. 5 auto/3. 54. Yep, it's noisy as all hill outside. Inside it's quiet and 10 hour days of pulling our 5th wheel are like resting on the couch at home. That's how I like to travel. :D

The Superduty looks better than the new Ram? Ya gotta be kidding right!

The Superduty looks like when you close the hood it ought to be squeazing play-dough french fries out of that big square grill. And those fender wells look every bit as elegant as the fender wells on our local city buses. Man the new Dodge was instant wood for me!:D

Elegant? Elegant?? If you want elegant, buy a Caddy or Mercedes. The new Rams look like plastic toys that were left too close to a radiator - "melted" is all I can think of. I haven't disliked a truck's looks this much since the new F150s came out back in 95(?). The SuperDuty looks impressive and intimidating in your rearview mirror. All I can think of when I see that great big honkin' chrome grille on a new Ram is "Chrome Beetle!"

I agree nh2112, The SD is best looking '03 from the front. I don't care for the round wheel wells though. They look just like my dads '72 Chevy! I love my '02!! :D

A Caddy or a Mercedes? I don't need no crack wagon!:-laf

The best lookin' truck on the planet just got better lookin'!:D

Don't fret... For tried to copy the 2nd gen. They'll try to copy the 3rd too!Oo.

The Duramax may be quiet, but you'd better watch out for your lower extremities when driving one. I'll be you need earplugs when this happens to you.

I have a friend that had that problem. His was a 6-speed duramax that was giving clutch trouble. GM said they would put in a new clutch but before they did it got so bad it was grinding and screeching whenever the clutch was in. He took it back in and they fount the trans was separating from the engine. They fixed it under warranty but now it is sitting with a blown head gasket.

A blown head gasket, eh? You don't happen to have any pictures or anything of this, do you? No Dmax owner would believe it if they didn't see it for themselves... BTW, is the Dmax stock, or does it have a fueling box of some sort?

Wes

It is stock, I have been trying to sell him a box, but as of now it is still stock. I am kind of glad he did not buy one now - I would hate to be in the middle of that warranty mess. Wish I had some pics, but I don't.

Did any of you guys read the attachment Alan Reagan referenced about the poor slob who has been without a truck for FOUR MONTHS . I wouldn't pull that on a guy from the TDR! Our stones are too big for someone to crap on us like this

If a factory rep pulled that on me, I would test drive Chevys every day of the week and see how many trannys I could break until I got a new truck

Remember how Tom Cruise drove the rental car in "Days of Thunder'' . I think you get the idea

No one deserves treatment like this -- not even Chevy drivers:mad:

Yeah, I read 14 pages of that. Somebody call me when dude gets a truck. I can't believe he still wants a GM product. Must be a really soft butt.

And he says that he can't spend the money on a lawyer! MYARSE dude GM is dicking you around on a $40,000 purchase! Oh well, just another reason to hate Genital Motors.

This is relative to the guy having the problem with the Dmax puking the driveline. Will somebody tell me how a Chevy 1 ton D-max is more powerful than a Ford F450 which is 1. 5 ton if I remember correctly. The math doesn't add up here. How is said same Chevy equivalent in power with an F-550?

I think it's a numbers game...

that GM knows how to play real well. I don't care what they're rated. I think there are many more Cummins/2500-3500's doing way more than they are rated for on a daily basis than PSD's or GM's.

But that's not scientific or anything.

Being "rated" more doesn't mean it actually does a better job with greater longevity. It's probably a federal government rating system... nuff said.

The poor fellow who's letting GM do him wrong is more concerned about how it rides than anything--from my reading.

Had an explaination one time about,F-350,450,550

A Ford buff once told me the only difference between the three is,( the motor-PSD- and trans are virtually the same), but as the GVWR goes up, the brakes and suspension are slightly heavier.

So basically your buying a F350 with good brakes on it I suppose. . ?

I'll stick with my 3500 Dodge CTD anyday...

GM board bad mouthing the CTD

I am an old fella. My late wife insisted I buy a diesel rather than a V-10 (she liked the power!!) and I have blessed her wisdom ever since. I now have a new lady(really, a retro-romance) who after 7000 miles up to the Yukon and back, says she really likes the sound and SMELL of a diesel... ... Now, do I know how to pick 'em or not?Oo.

2 for 2 is great. I like the fact that my wife doesn't like my truck. That means she never wants to drive it :D

Thanks for the response. I thought that the higher rating meant more payload, which means brakes and suspension components would have to be beefier than any 1 ton truck with a lighter payload/towing capacity.

My wife does not, I repeat, does not drive my truck. If the weather were ever to be bad, and she didn't want to drive her Buick, she could hitch a ride with me or walk. On a lighter note, she thinks the truck is to big to drive. She prefers the passenger side to the driver's side. ;)

My question is if the Dodge with the Cummins was so loud why did he buy it in the first place? If his wife thought it was so loud and didn't like it how did he get it past her when he bought it? Seems like they are meant for each other.

Payload is bigger, but

the drive train, engine and trans are no stronger then the F-350. Brakes and suspension are heavier etc.
