Cummins N14 Celect/ Engine Brake question

It's basically a trade... Cererus want to trade Chrysler LLC to GM for the rest GM's share of GMAC. Cererbus owns 60% of GMAC and 100% of Chyrsler Financial. Cererbus wants more of the automobile financing business and would like to get out of the automoblie manufacturing business.

GM had to shore up GMAC losses recently with over $1B because of low residual value on leases of pickups and SUVs. GM is "burning" $1B per month in cash and can't afford to be pouring more billions into GMAC.

What may seem impossible, may not be...

GM approached Ford for a merger first but talks went no where. Now they are talking to chrysler... Cummins in a Chevy?

Me too! I can't come up with a single thing either.

I cannot think of a single vehicle chevrolet has that I would ever want. Older vehicles, sure, but none of their new, foreign looking crap has any appeal to me. Their frames are too low slung on their 2500-3500 trucks. I DO NOT like independent front suspension on a heavy duty work truck and it is nearly impossible to find ANY chevrolet product with a manual transmission. Just for $hits and giggles, I went to the chevrolet place to find an in stock cab/chassis diesel to get a price comparison to the Dodge we are about to purchase for a company service truck. The guy could not find one with a manual transmission anywhere... kept preaching the "features" of the "Alison". The Dodge guys have multiple cab/chassis trucks with 6-speed and Cummins.

I looked at their truck on the lot and it seems wimpy compared to the Dodge, especially that front end and that low slung frame below the cab... And what a CHEESIE plastic bumper that is also very low slung!

GOD, I hope this does not happen!!!:mad::mad:

I can't imagine that any of the Big 3 have enough money to buy lunch, let alone another manufacturer. Ford's stock was down under $2 this last week, so I heard. Chevy's was under $5. Is it time to buy stock? Will the government let them tank?

there is no such thing as a manual transmission in any chevy truck since I think 06 they put all their eggs in the allison basket and they aren't even a good transmission anymore.

You're kidding??? You can't even get a manual transmission in a 2500 or 3500 Chev? What a freaking CROCK!!!

I am not buying their truck anyway because I do not want a V-8 diesel but that is still crazy that there is no CHOICE of a manual trans when they are supposed to be "standard" equipment.

I guess that explains what the salesman kept pushing on me. I told him I did not want the "Silverado" trim, just the basic "Custom Deluxe" trim line. He said ALL the trucks now have the Silverado trim... Lovely, you can't even get a "work truck" 3500 (with manual transmission, rubber floor mat, vinyl seat and manual windows) from Chev anymore??? What a lousy excuse of a truck!! Yep, gladly getting the Dodge. Just had to check and see what the other one offered... (not even considering a Ford, with its troublesome diesel history!)

In the end the government will not let them tank. If any of them went down, not only would it take the other two down with them, but it would colapse the entire North American eco system. Look at all of the industries, suppliers, dealerships - basically all the people that are employed directly and indirectly because of the big three. Now take all of their jobs away. There would suddenly be MILLIONS of people out of work. We would be in FAR worse than a depression.

My 2 cents...

... or is it Duramax in a Dodge?

Say it ain't so. No V-8 Duracrap for me thank you. If you think QC is bad At Daimler/Chrysler, It's non-existent at General Mistake. Stuff will start falling off the truck before the paperwork is finished.

FOURWHEELER magazine recently reported that ford would be following chevy with no manuals behind the next powerstroke ...

Good Lord! What a JOKE! What good is a TRUCK if you can't get it with a manual transmission? I am talking WORK truck here, one that stays loaded and needs maximum efficiency. Guess that seals the deal. I will get the Dodge/Cummins. Not that there was really any doubt about that... Just wanted to see what the "others" offered. Decision made easy if the others do not offer what I need/want!

;)

When 6. 0 Fords came out (in late 2002 IIRC) Ford offered a manual six speed transmission. I drove one just out of curiosity in 2002 and it was a real learning experience and joke.

At the time I had owned my '01 Dodge HO 6 speed for a year or more and was fully accustomed to putting the transmission in first or second gear and letting the clutch out then powering it up. As all of you who have owned one know, you drive a Dodge-Cummins that way, even if it's loaded heavy. Just like a big 18 wheel OTR truck. The habit was so well ingrained in me by that time that I was literally almost unable to drive the 6. 0 Ferd. Each time I let out the clutch I stalled the weak zero torque motor. The ONLY way to drive a V8 diesel is just like a gas small block Chevy V8. You rev up the engine and slip the clutch to get it rolling.

That is the reason, IMO, that Ferd & GM dropped the manual transmissions. A manual transmission makes the complete lack of low rpm torque impossible to hide. It can easily be concealed with an automatic transmission and loose torque converter but with a manual clutch and transmission they are dogs to drive when loaded and annoying when empty.

Daimler/Chrysler split about a year ago. dodge is still owned by daimler. they sold the chrysler part to a guy that owned it a few years ago. all so navstar is going to be building the new smaller diesel eng.
