Tug Of War

New PA BS law, snow on roof

I just saw this a few minutes ago. There's a lot of skepticism about the story among the "experts".

Such a move would be VERY interesting, indeed!

There's no way GM can purchase Chrysler right now. GM can't take care of itself as it is. Now if this report was saying Ford/GM were merging, I would believe it, as Ford is in terrible shape. Out of the big three, Chrysler is the only one making any money right now.

Does this mean that:

1) There will be a Duramax in your new Dodge.

2) There will be a Cummins in your new Chevy.

3) The Dodge truck will go away and the Chevy Will Survice.

4) The Checy truck will go away.

5) You get to choose between a Duramax and a Cummins in either tuuck.

Should this be a poll? :-laf :-laf

The proposed purchase was of Chrysler cars, not the trucks. Diamler could hang onto Dodge and Jeep and just dump off Chrysler.

Now that is an interesting suggestion.

What was once Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Eagle, Plymouth, will be whittled down to just Dodge and Jeep. I think that could be very good for them.

I haven't seen any stories separating Chrysler Group from Dodge and Jeep in regards to the sell-off. It does make sense though, where Dodge is squeeking by a profit. We'll see I guess.

Actually, a common tactic for a struggling company is to buy a healthier company that is smaller. GM still has huge market capitalization (don't forget it is the worlds largest company) and its financing arm comes in handy when purchasing big ticket items.

Remember Boeing in the mid 90's buying McDonell-Douglas... at the time Boeing wasn't fairing so well. Also consider AOL's purchase of Time Warner... AOL was seeing its market size diminish rapidly and thought diversifying would save it.

A GM buyout of Chrysler would actually make some sense for GM... the design team at Chrysler is sorely needed (heck, just look at Chevy styling. The interiors of those things are circa 1995).

GM is having a fit that Toyota is about to pass it as the worlds largest auto builder, buying dodge would hold off this for a couple more years.
