Want to put a 12V in my 96 Ford!

Hello,

Will a GM NV4500 bolt to a 6BT using the Dodge bellhousing and adapter plate? What transfer cases did the GM trucks that had the NV4500 had?

Thanks,

Mikel

The later models will bolt up to it, but there is a difference in the length of the inputshaft. I think the Dodge is longer? The dodge unit has a 1. 25" dia shaft, the GM is 1. 125" dia.

whats the year cut off for the better ones? and can you swap in the upgraded dodge main shaft etc?

thanks,

I don't know the years for the odd trans chevy used, but the mounting is different from the late chevy and dodge and has a 6. something first gear. Too low for a B series, IMHO.

Yes the input shafts are interchangable. I bought a Dodge standard duty NV4500 from AA with a chevy input shaft. Later on I put the HD Dodge input shaft on it and the trans guy didn't even have to take it apart. He just pulled the shaft off and put the new one one. He did have to take the top cover off the check for play and kept the old shaft for payment. No labor cost!
