If fuel remained at $1.00 more per gallon for Diesel

Road Rage "enhancements"

Oh, and the Germans........

owned Dodge during WWII and they designed the "CUMMINGS" diesel with Adolph Diesel himself... .

Just ask Klenger. He'll tell ya!!!!! Oo. :D

Never had a bit of trouble with mine because I got rid of it at 16,000 miles. I knew trouble was coming. The classified ads were full of 5. 7 diesels with new gas engines. GM has a history of letting the public test their bad products. That '78 Chevy PU was my last GM vehicle and my CTD is my first DC.

They had a 4. 3L V-6 diesel also. There were in the Pontiac 6000, Chevy Celebrities for sure. Couldn't pay me enough to work on one again.

Both the cast and aluminum heads had serious cracking problems between the valves.

Don't forget that POS 4 banger diesel the stuck in Chevette's... ...

Buddy of mine had one, you couldn't even get a oil filter for it! :--)

a new GM diesel is coming??????????????? please make sure someone posts when it comes out because i sure don't want to miss this. hopefully it'll be at least 5. 7 liters and with any luck to maximize fuel economy it'll be a 4-6-8 since we remember what a rousing success that setup was. i'll have to get my beach chair & cooler ready so i can camp out at the dealership & be first in line to get me one of these gems. i was raised a chevy boy & my collection of old cars is all chevy but after one disappointing piece of crap after another in the late 80's/early 90's chunky's money don't end up in flint anymore preferring something from dearborn or auburn hills

Sorry, rushing some half-baked idea to market because of fad marketing is not thinking outside the box. Trying it as an engineering mule and learning that it doesn't work would have been to their credit. Dumping that POS on the unsuspecting public was darn near criminal, and they deserve every last bit of the negative legacy it created. Too bad ALL light diesel manufacturers had to pay the price.

Are you talking about the Ford six ohh? :D

In-Trash-National deserves a paragraph of their own :p but since the original post was GM related I avoided too broad a diatribe :-laf

I had two 6. 9's :{

why is it some almost third world countries run by smug little men in cheap suits & bad glasses can build practically indestructible light duty diesel engines but one of the biggest corporations in the world, headquartered in the richest nation in the world falls flat on their faces whenever they go beyond the basic gasoline powered internal combustion engine???????? GM should have had us all flying around with personal jetpacks by now (at least according to 1970's popular mechanics). i don't know who they're trying to appeal to but i don't know too many people buying anything off the sinking S. S. Flint. mechanically they suck, their styling to be kind is "unusual" & gmac couldn't get their act together if they tried. nice going, they even managed to turn the corvette into an ugly POS. the only difference between GM & the Titantic is the Titantic had a band.

I guess I must e the only quirky guy around here. I had a GM diesel 1981 Custom Cruiser Wagon... When I sold it in 94 I had 330,000 miles on it. I had just rebuilt it just before I sold it. I actually liked it, a bit low on power and take off, but highway driving was great. Great fuel mileage and once you got past the injection pump problems with a flyweight retainer, the pump worked for many years... just look at the Ford diesel... almost identical injection pump from stantodyne.

Then again I guess I'm just a bit quirky too.

i'm pretty partial to the cummins but it would be pretty interesting & possibly fun if the other diesel engine mfgs like cat, detroit etc made small diesel engines for pickups & we had our choice of engine jut like a guy ordering a peterbilt, kenworth or freightliner. then add choice of trannys like allison, spicer or roadranger. if GM is going to scrap the duramax it would be cool to open the hood on a gmc and see a yellow cat motor sitting there.

I had a 78 Chevrolet PU other than rust it was a great truck. 300k with a small block 400 and 0 problems. I hope the dodge does as well

<Why do you say that? GMAC is the only profitable part of GM right now.

-Ryan>

they may be profitable but have you had the pleasure of doing business with them????? them alone is almost enough to make you never want to do business with them again and that's from guy that was never late & paid off my truck early. they must be a whole lot of fun if there's a big problem.

Another happy Olds diesel owner here, '82 Cutlass Supreme Salon, 160k and 26mpg, until it got hit in the r/f by a red light running drunk. Great cruiser, but not alot of oomph on take-off. My buddy that owned it originally is a diesel tech. Didn't even smoke too bad.
