LMM Info - You can't mess with fresh air box, computer or exhaust - WARRANTY VOID

LMM Info - You can't mess with fresh air box, computer or exhaust - WARRANTY VOID - TheDieselPage.com Forums

I'm sure this information will not be well received by those looking forward to hot rodding the new LMM Duramax Diesel. This information is included with the owners manual and documentation on delivery of a new Duramax Diesel equipped truck. Specifically, no fresh air boxes, no reprogramming of the ECM and no exhaust modifications. If you attempt to reprogram the ECM and then un-program it before taking it to a dealer for service, you will still be caught by the new computers. Don't try it unless your prepared to void your warranty. Members need to know that GM is serious about the following:

AFTERMARKET ENGINE PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT KITS

Meh, my 93 somewhere in the owners manual, states that any modification to the exhaust system will end up voiding the warranty. Seems to me 100's of Dodge CTD with straightpipes get warranty work all the time.

A local dodge dealer tried to void the warrany on a bombed dodge, when it was in for a repair to get this... ... the brake lights... ..... after a stern conversation with the owner, the dodge dealer covered the problem.

The "bottom" line is this. *IF* the mod is the direct cause of failure, then the warranty can be jeprodised. As an example, if the radio fails and there is a mod done on your exahust or intake systems, they can not void your warranty on the radio!

Yes, some dealers will try and convince you they can void the warranty, but it is not legal for them to do that, unless the mod directly caused the failure!

I know this sounds good and everything, and yes you can sit around and poke fun about it (then again you have a old truck),but it should be taken very seriously by all the NEW truck owners. Sure the old Dodges had warnings about modifications, but till 98 they didn't even have a computer controlling the fuel system. It got a little more involved after that, but still the EPA specs were so loose that they didn't need the super tight system they now have to implore.

You are no longer going to be able to get around the system, part of the new legislature concerning the new lower EPA emissions includes the addition of sub-routines that constantly look for fueling condition that could not have been possible with a stock tune. There are UN-limited variables they could use to catch someone who has tinkered with there truck. You also must realize now that it would be a Federal Offense, and punishable by Law ( It was also before, but now they have proof). Detroit and the Federal Government are both tired of people hopping up their trucks and then being something less then a man about it when it comes to warranty work, those people are pathetic, remember "I am my own warranty station". Easier said they done, Right. Well your days are now numbered, modify the new trucks and you will be caught. I'm actually glade, why have companies spend billions of dollars on R&D for these new engines, and the fuel they burn, only to have some hillbilly come along and mess it up, then complain when something breaks. I do feel a little for the dealers that will not long be able to sell the volume of intake air kit, exhaust system and programmers, but hey change is good, they can sell something different, something that doesn't void ones warranty.

Then why are we still getting 18-20 MPG? Billions of dollars?

Hillbillies or not, people are going to try and figure out how to make their vehicles run better, mods or not, to do the things that those Billions of dollars failed to do in the first place.

I agree with GIT-R-DONE. Our moded trucks get better fuel economy than stock and the fun to drive factor of a stock truck is at best boring. But I think Chevy has a hidden agenda!!! Right now you can buy a gasser and add lots mods to it { from the dealer }. Such as cold air intake's, exhaust and many other upgrades. ALL GM PERFORMANCE PARTS!! Any customer can add all the performance parts on to the price of the truck. And I bet GM Performance will have a full line of Dmax parts that you can add and not void the warranty. Just another way for multi billion dollar company's to cut out the small guys who make a better product and work harder to do it!!!!! IMO

Dodge will void the warranty on a gasser for a K&N filter, but the Mopar cold air kit which doesn't void the warranty includes, yep, a K&N filter!!! Mcescolini has nailed it on the head, the Big 3 are coming after the diesel market now. The possible plus to this, being able to bomb your truck AND keep your warranty!!!

I cant blame them. These motors are having enough problems stock, let alone start dumping a ton of fuel too them. Had a buddy all ****** off at ford for not fixing the head gasket on his 6. 0 after running the bully dog and poping it drag racing. Not really fords problem, you play, you pay. Now crap like voiding the whole warranty for it and not just the drive train, thats BS

Sorry man but I had a new 05 Power joke pop both head gaskets and the truck had zero mods. I think its BS to blame a failure on a mod when you know damn well the truck will have the same failure in stock trim.:mad::mad:
