I Guess This May Be A Stupid Question But How Much Blow By Is To Much? My 91 Auto Dual Rear Wheel Truck Has Just Started Dripping A Bit Of Oil Form The Blow By Vent Tube. Do I Need A Rebuild Is There Something I Can Do? Please Help.

Thanks

pastor bob... .

Oil drip

My opinion is that there should be no drip at the vent. REALLY high miles, these engines will start to weep here and there but when the vent starts to drip, you are getting a problem with rings. Whether you need a rebuild can not be determined with the limited info you provide.

I agree with James on this one..... we need more info.

I would first ask... is the oil level overfilled at all? I ask because it is a common problem in the marine field that these engine immediately **** out oil via the vent tube if they are even the slightest bit overfilled or at the correct level and the engine gets tipped onan angle due to it's running attitude. The fix in this case is to keep the level at one quart low or whatever it takes to prevent the overflow.

I would also ask how much oil is dripping? Are there any other indicators that you need to rebuild your engine?

Well lets see what more info I can give... . Oil is not over full but needs to be changed... The truck has been sitting for about a year I just bought it has 223,000 miles on it runs strong pulls hard shifts well no smoke white or black when idleing. Its a 91 non innercooled that has a banks innercooler on it with banks exhuast. Starts very easy but it will get a few drips while running and a few more when you turn it off. Seems odd to me just wondering if anyone has had similar before i take it to the shop and pay out the ***. The only good thing is I only gave 2500. 00 for the truck.

I am not positive that its comming from that tube but its def at the back of the motor when its sitting still I am going to check it alot closer tonight when I put it on my freinds lift. As for the if its running drive it theroy that scarces me a little I like to fix them before they break. If its going to leak I should put some harley stickers on it when they quit leaking its time to add more oil theroy. As soon as i know more info I will post it thanks for all your help.

If you are unsure where the leak is originating from, I recommend cleaning the engine well with an environmentally unsound product of your choice, and monitoring until you can determine the source of the leak.
