'83 Crew Conversion

1999 F-250 with 97 12 valve

I have a 1991 GMC 3500 Crew Cab 1-ton I am doing a conversion on. It has the older cab, 87 back chevy and had a 454 with 4 speed. I already put a 12 valve and a 5 speed transmission in it and have it mounted out of a 1993 dodge 1-ton. I have a few questions hopefully some of you guys can help me with.

#1

How do I need to go about hooking up the p/s and brakes on it. On the 454, the brakes and p/s ran off the p/s pump. I still have the dodge p/s pump on the engine. Do I just need to adapt the lines to the dodge pump?

#2

My next question is on the clutch. How would I go about hooking it up. Do I use the gm slave or the doge slave. Im clueless on this one.

#3

On hooking up the speedometer. My 4 speed had a sensor on the back of the transmission for the speedometer, and so does the dodge 5 speed. What do I need to do to have a wrking speedometer?

#4

On the gas tanks. My tanks had the electric fuel pumps in the tanks. Could I just switch the tops of the tanks t the old style without the fuel pumps in them and use the tanks I have on the truck, of course makeing sure all the gas is cleaned out 1st.

That is all the questions I have for now and any help will be greatly appreciated. I sure cant wait to get this thing going so I can drive it. Im sure I will have more questions down the road.

On your power steering , you just put a "T" on the extra return line .

on the slave you use a dodge slave

On the speedo if the generator from the other transmission bolts id try it , if not you might have to go manual trans but if you contact Isspro they can tell you for shure

On the fuel tank sender if you can get fuel out of the tank ,with out pressure

to the fuel pump your good to go

you can use a ps pump from a 98 and up they have hydroboost and look like a gm unit. Good luck And lets see some picks

For the P/S pump, I bought a used P/S pump that was off a 3. 9 cummins. It replaced the vacuum/P/S pump on the dodge. Lines matched up for the truck.

My clutch, I used the master from the truck, and the slave from the transmission. I than spliced the lines together in the middle. Mine had the plastic lines, and I used the fuel line splice kit. Works great.

Thanks for all the replies. They really helped alot. I have several pics of my truck and engine, but I can figure out hoe to post them. I will keep trying and maybe I can figure out how to get them on here. Thanks again for all your help.

Here's sumtin you might look at.

My 87 had a 6. 2 in it and I just swapped the sheet metal housing, then used the threaded adaptor/housing retainer of the GM pump. That way you have two returns and the right threads for the stock hose from chevy.

I not sure what pump was offered in 91 on a 454 gasser but the dodge pump has enuff GPM's and pressure if yer pump pot will swap. I then mounted the remote res. to the bracket the holds all the throttle stuff's

Just a thought
