Went to the GM Truckshow today and witnessed the Duramax (Auto-3:73) being dynoed. They used a Mustang dyno and did 0-60 runs (8. 3 sec. ) as well as 1/4 mile runs (15. 8/86mph) all uncorrected. After the display I asked the dyno techs what the best rear wheel numbers they had seen in their many dyno runs all over the country. 265 HP / 440 Ft. Lbs. was the best they had recorded. 245/420 was more common. Seems about right with the drivetrain losses included.

My local chevy lot finally got a duramax in so I went to look at it. Idles real nice, very smooth and sounds powerful. Under the hood was a nightmare though. Intercooler hoses over the rocker covers and electronics everywhere. I could only see one injecter line on each bank. Would be a real ***** to find fuel leaks on.
The salesman admitted that the Cummins was a better choice if you have to have a diesel in a pickup. Mostly because he cann't get the d-maxs to sell.
I just love my Cummins more every day!

The one I test-drove accelerated great, but that was the workings of the Allison transmission, more so than the engine. Once we were over 60-70 and locked into high gear, acceleration and power were unimpressive.
