I have 5 gallons of Rotella Syn 5-40 that I stockpiled when I had my G2. I have offered it cheap to the other CTD owners here but they are hoping I will give it away. It is CH-4 rated and the latest and greatest is CI-4, which is what the G3s call for.

On one shoulder the little angel guy says " you are being too cheap, after all this is a $30K rig, and you want to take a chance on ruining it with $50 of oil? - Doah! No brainer!"

On the other shoulder the little devil guy says "You won't be running hard, hot, or towing. The C-I is over engineered for the EPA 05 specs and engines and you are in a non-EPA 04. C-H is fine for the next couple of changes. Winter is coming on - go ahead and use it up!"

if you really want to use synthetic, go for the gusto and use one that will give you extended drain interval. if you are going to change at 4 or 5k, dont waste your money on syn.

use it. you are not going to harm the engine at all. . it could well be CI rated but the bottles show CH... no egr system to worry about on your engine... so less soot in oil. i'm running CH oil according to the bottle, but it is CI according to the manufacture [older bottles but formula wasn't changed for CI rating]

Thanks for the input.

I don't really want to run synthetic PAO 5. I used the rotella syn for a while in my 02 until I found out (here on the TDR, naturally) about what is truely synthetic and what isn't. So it was back to dino for me.

I ran delo 400 in my 98 and now in my 04. I like it and change my oil and filter every 5K. I'm confident it will see me through.
