I'm stumped, maybe one of you can help me.

Here we go... My 2002, the last few days has had a wierd feeling fuel pedal. Its usually smooth throughout the whole travel of the pedal and light at the top.

Recently its gotten "notchy" (for lack of a better word) throughout the travel of the pedal, and its stiff at the top like there's a little catch that doesn't want me to be able to drive smoothly any more.

Its really killing driveability. I've ruled out driver error because I've been driving it the same way since I bought it with no problems. And there's nothing wrong with the pedal, linkage, or cable inside the truck.

Could cold weather be part of the problem?

I'm assuming that cable is the root of the problem, what do you think TDR?

Thanks in advance,

-R. J.

I'm assuming by notchy and a catch, you are talking about the physical feel of the pedal regardless of whether the engine is running or not - correct?

If so, then it sounds like the APPS may have some internal friction - perhaps due to cold weather. However I would first look to the cable run - any bends? Have you put anything through the firewall near the cable exit that could be binding it? Have you attached anything to the pedal, like a brake switch?

I'd try some dielectric grease inside the APPS linkage, and some graphite cable lube into both ends of the sheath. However, not having been into the APPS myself, can't help out on the details of how to accomplish this.

I have decided it is directly related to the cold. I just went and drove it to lunch and it seems normal now, but this morning it was worse than ever (also the coldest I've ever driven it). I'll dig into it this weekend and see what happens.

There is nothing run throught the fire wall, no brake switch, no nothing.

I'm guessing its something to do with the linkage, I put my ear near the pedal with the truck off and pushed the pedal with my hand and could hear some squeaking/rubbing noises from the cable.

Thanks,

-R. J.
