Michelins

I've got the stock Michelin's with 52k miles on them. They look good for another 20k or 30k. I use the spare tire in the rotation schedule. . so this mileage is for 5 tires not 4.

Don't think I would even consider another brand at this point. The wear pattern is just about perfect and I tow real heavy for part of the year. Mileage is very good too. No need to experiment now.

I have noticed a few things on these tires ...



The rear is 3500 pounds so a 10 ply tire is very hard. Under Regular driving, I have noticed when I pull in my driveway, the Dust on the tires from the concrete is not out to the edges. So I lowered the pressure on the rears to 45 psi and it is just out to the edges now... so some of you that have had slipping might be too hard of PSI for the conditions.



The rear tires are holding up only 1700 pounds per tire so the pressures can be lower... . I do have the fronts higher a bit but like 55 or 60... ...



Time will tell on how they do but so far I see a big difference on the MPG's around 20 just around town... (on the overhead average).



Thanks for all the replies. I know BFG at are good tires but I just need long lasting tires while towing. My hitch weight is 1300 pounds and all that is on the rear even though I have the hensley hitch... . So I need the E rate 10 ply for that reason...

You guys ever try the Michelin XPS Tractions? They are a little more aggressive tread but not as much as say a bfg AT. My dad runs them on his farm truck. Lots of gravel roads, never rotates them, and gets good milage out of them. Anybody that knows about gravel roads knows the tread gets chewed off. I run BFG mts because they are more aggressive yet. I never had any complaints about the michelins until it came to mud, and they were lacking. But this is coming from a guy that runs bias ply swampers on my old dodge.



We had XPS ribs(straight tread,steer tires) on the front of moms E350 with an old 7. 3 in it. On the read had XPS traction. Got almost 100,000 on the front and 80,000 on the rear. Had tread left but the gravel had chewed them up enough to be scared of them.



Like said above my dad never rotates, usually the tires are shot all the way around when he is done, because of the gravel.



I rotate often because of the mud tread, and I get to stay off the gravel for the most part anymore.



I would suggest the XPS tractions, they are pricey, almost always hold their balance, and wear like iron. Run em in snow, ice, rain, dirt, gravel, and are happy with them, until it gets MUDDY, but then its an all season tire.



My defienition of mud is differnt then most peoples.

I replaced my Michelin XPS Traction tires after 94,000 km.
