I think FCA is recognizing that synthetics are better than conventional. But they promote only Shell & Pennzoil products. And since Pennzoil/Shell doesn't make a 15w 40 synthetic, FCA promotes the 5w 40 they do offer?
My manual says nothing about Cummins specs. Just Mopar specs. And doesn't recommend a brand. But does day 15w 40 above zero and 5w 40 below
copy that, I had the wrong one....thanks for the catch!!don't confuse the three point oh echodiesel with the Cummins 6.7
If you look at the chart above, the cold flow for 15w40 is about 5 above and the cold flow for 5w40 is about 15 below. I remember when I first started changing my oil, the Amsoil recommendation was 15w40. Then one day it was 5w40. So I'v been using that ever since.
Tonight I went back and dug around the site and discovered that Amsoil recommends 15w40 for years 2010 and older. And 5w40 for years 2011 and up.
There. MY mystery solved. :-laf
Does anyone actually make a 0w 40?
Never actually laid my eyes on that
Newsa, you and I don't need to worry about that but to answer your questions, yes they make 0-40. https://www.mobil.com/english-gb/passenger-vehicle-lube/pds/euxxmobil-1-turbo-diesel-0w40
Newsa, this is Cummins recommended oil viscosity chart for temp range. its not like you are I really have to worry about -54 degrees. never get the engine started at those temperatures if it was let to sit outside for any length of time anyway so its sort of a moot point for just about anybody what the pour point it
