I am taking my '00 3500 6spd to the local Cummins dealer for a dyno test and engine diagnosis. Bought it used, so far I love it. Just want a baseline, all stock now.
What should I expect? What questions should I ask the Cummins shop? Rocky Mountain Cummins, Henderson Colorado.
Thanks

Bill, I don't have anything to add as I have only dyno'd mine once, so far. Just wanted to say welcome aboard and best of luck with your new rig. Post those numbers when you have 'em.

hi bill-
Get a Cummins Power Booster club membership it's good for something like 10% off parts and labor and you get the midrange engine newsletter.
Second, make sure they can give you a torque reading as when I had my old truck flogged here at the GJ Cummins, their dyno was a very old water brake type dyno with no way to get the torque other than using a formula.

Scott & Joe-
Thanks, the Cummins dealer here has a new building. I am hoping their equipment is new as well. I will post the results.
What I have been told is they will have a measure of the blow-by as part of the test. If so this will give me a good indication of the condition of the engine. It will be a few months before I put a real load on the truck, plus I had to hire a lawyer to get the title from the guy I bought the truck from (long story... ). He claims it was serviced every 5,000 miles, now I know I can't trust him. Oil looked OK when I changed it last week, I kept a sample for testing.
If you buy a truck from someone you know (or thought you know) treat that person like he is a stranger. Business is business, protect yourself.

I tried Cummins here in OKC, even though they wanted $178, I felt that they would do a wonderful job, producing my HP and Torque.

I had no idea just how the test would be done. Once there, I toured their test equipment, which seemed old, and not well maintained. The test was rather disapointing, and after some dispute discussions, I had to pay half the charge to get my keys back.

The test was printed out somewhat, but the operator used MY gauges, as he was unable to hook up his to my truck.

Basically, I was on the wrong type dyno. They DO NOT use it to performance test toy trucks, they use it to trouble shoot trucks that need service; the only way to put a load on the truck and find out what's leaking etc is on their dyno.

I have since had a test on a dynojet, in St Louis, and was very pleased with the test and the results in HP and Torque.

Best wishes with your new truck!

The Dyno at the Cummins shop in Phx is also the old style and will not give you what you want for the money spent... No graph and HP only at one RPM. . I was dissapointed. .

Find a shop with a DynoJet... They work great and are very easy on your truck. . You will get Hp and Trq graphs (Color) and they are corrected for Temp and Altitude ETC..... You should see readings around 15% less at the Wheels then the motor is producing. .

There will be lots of Dyno Run Graphs on the site as soon as everyone from MayMaddness gets home... We had a GREAT TIME!! #ad

For a stock '00 with a manual trans,if you can get 200-210hp to the ground, then you're sittin' pretty. Any more and you got some real 'clean' electronics, and less and you got some 'dirty' electronics.

I wouldn't worry with a truck that had only 25,000 miles when you bought it. Even if the guy had only changed the oil once in 25k,it wouldn't hurt anything.
