Motorhome electrical mystery, what do you think

Ok fellas,

I need your opinion.

I'm thinking about selling my 5er, and going to a cabover. I'm tired of pulling my boat behind my 5er. Any suggestions on brand. I've even thought about a cabover popup, but that's what I had before the 5er. I could use your opinion.

Thanx

Big A

Big A, my . 02-- if you go with a cabover, go with a hard side rather than a popup. I've had several of each. With the popup, you lose a fair amount of storage room, i. e. on bed, etc. Plus you get a full size door and a little better heating cooling ability. Usually not much of a weight savings with a popup. Likewise, not a big difference in wind resistance. fwiw

Big A, I'm sure I won't be the only one to say this, but if you're going to do it, go with the Lance. You may pay a little more than some of the others; however, in this case, you truly do get what you pay for. I have looked at several of the manufactures of cab-overs, and at first glance, most of them appear to be well made. You really have to get in there and look at everything to appreciate the Lances. I am still considering selling the TT and going to a slide-in and if/when I do, it will be a Lance.

I have a 97 Lance non slide and it is well built. Also I would look at Big Foot. Depending on what you want and need (two different things I know). The BigFoot with the kitchen slide out and dinnet slide out gives you ooodles of room over the non slides.

I think you may have a problem with the size of camper you can put on your truck. Since you have a 4wd and a quad cab you will have a limited amount of payload available for a camper. Weigh your truck and then compare with the GVW of your truck to get a total availble payload, then subtract of the weight of passengers and gear and that is what is available for the weight of a camper. I'll bet you will be looking at lightweight campers such as Alpenlite, Lancelite, or a poptop camper like you are talking about. Good luck. I went through this drill before deciding on my truck and a Summerwind 811 camper. :)

Weight

Al,my truck came with a sheet that had the maxium weight for a

camper... It was (I think) 2300#'s. That shot us down so we quit looking at them. We were leaning toward the BigFoot.

Sorry missed your call. . try again.

I can get the paper I mentioned and scan it or fax it to you if want.

Alex,

I remember back when you sold your cabover for the 5ver and one of your comments being that the 5ver had more room and a better comfort level for the family.

That's one factor that I would really take in consideration. If and when you go shopping for a cab over, make sure you take the entire family so that you can make sure that you guys have the comfort that you desire in a camper.

Good luck with your choice... and let me know if you need any help. I'd be more then happy to help out in any way possible.

Kev

p. s. The wife has been on this trip to go trailer shopping... so if you ever need any company as you are out shopping, don't hesitate to call. We are gonna start shopping around to see what fits us here pretty soon.
