Going rate per mile to haul?

A friend of mine has been offered a job towing a flatbed trailer with about 10,000lbs with his '03 3500 quad cab short bed 2wd. 5spd and 4. 10's . Can anyone tell me what the going rate per mile is for doing a job like this? It would be alot of miles, full time and he has to buy the trailer.

Don't know about Flatbed service, but I get about $1 to $1. 50 a mile when I run Fifth wheel trailers around.

I just found out that he was offered $1. 70/mile.

$1. 70 is a good price. I charge $1. 50 per laoded mile. There are companies that go as high as $2. 5 per laoded mile.

I have to agree, where are these jobs? Most of the companies I have checked out are paying $0. 50-$0. 75 per loaded mile.

That sounds like a good rate.

How many toll roads will he have to travel? I know going into NYC it's quite expensive for a full size rig. On the lines of $40. 00 per bridge. They go by axles, so ours might not be too much cheaper.

Are the loads palletized, or will he have to unload it?

I used to do 45' trailers. In the middle of the summer, that wasnt fun.

For $1. 70 a mile, I'd be interested in it, provided I dont have to go into the city, and dont have to do too many toll roads.

He is not too sure about toll roads. The trip will be as far as Portland to pick up from DFW. It is shipping boxes that weigh about 5000lbs. that are used to ship goods back and forth overseas that they are selling.

As far as loading and unloading goes, it is a 40ft. trailer with hydraulics to incline the trailer and then winch the box onto the trailer and the same to unload it. It will be city driving.

I don't know how he came across the job, but I think he will be doing it.

Is that pretty much steady work?

If you'd have to go get a specialised trailer(sounds kind of like it), you'd hate to only use it for a few months out of the year for what you purchased it for.
