2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Going to do my AC Evap. Anything else I need to know?

Got my TDR article and Chiltons to guide me but I was wondering what guys have run into that's not covered. Things like replacing lost AC oil that was trapped in the old evaporator, won't come apart without breaking the ?, and replace the o-rings. So any hints or tips would be appreciated.

I have never done one but the factory manual for my 2001 says "If the Evaporator is replaced, add 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil to the system.

MRose good luck mine has had leak detected, but a freon boost lasts all summer, so I'm still working up the ambition to tackle it. Please let us know how it goes for you.

Just a word of caution for all you bad people(Smokers like me) about AC evaporator leaks. R134a is POISONOUS if inhaled through a flame.

Some suppliers won't warranty the evaporator unless you replace the receiver/drier, also it might be good insuance to replace the heater core while you are in there. If you can find a couple of rubber plugs to fit the heater hose openings it will prevent getting anti freeze on the carpet. bg

I would replace the orifice tube since you are already in the system. #ad

Just an FYI here..... if you have a squeak in your dash... ... sounds like a cricket chirp when on washboard road... . Dodge issued a TSB on this noise... . the recommended cure is to put a piece of thin foam tape between the cab and the driver's side end of the dash. If you have the dash out of the truck for the A/C repair, this is a good time to solve the chirping noise problem... . if you have it.

Good luck on the evaporator replacement... . mine has been replaced 2 times in the last 10 months... . and my A/C is dead again right now.

I did it last month and it went well. No problems and it all works. Biggest hassle is all the exta stuff mounted to the dash, gauges etc.
