Nothing has changed for the road restrictions, just depends on the ranger or entrance station person ...
Glacier National Park
'Going to the Sun' road restrictions on vehicles and combined length are still: length 21' or less, including bumpers and hitches; width 8' or less, including mirrors; and height 10' or less.
Width at rear dually fenders is exactly 8', width with standard mirrors is slightly more than 94", max width with std. trailer mirrors slightly more than 108", width trailer mirrors turned down 102". Passenger trailer mirror folded in, width from passenger side rear dually fender to the turned down trailer mirror on driver side is 98". They have a measuring tape, don't ask me how I know. Fold in both mirrors if they give you grief. Most of the time they won't hassle me about the mirrors.
Lengthwise a quad cab with the 8' bed and 160.5" wheel base is spec'd as 249.7" or 20' 10" you are good to go with 2" to spare in a stock truck. Check the numbers in your owner's manual so you can show them or from the
Ram Body Builders Guide for years 2004-2014 print the detailed dimensions (note Ram Body Builder site has some issues and works well only with the 32 bit version of IE, links didn't work with 64 bit version of IE nor Chrome. They dropped model year 2003 at the beginning of this year, you might e-mail them and ask them to send it as a zip file). Just remember that parking at the top of Logan pass is difficult this time of year even for people with a compact car. Early morning or late in the day on a week day is the best.
Nothing magical about the 8' requirement. Too many people not used to a narrow, curvy, two lane mountain road road hugging the center line. The worst offenders are the red bus drivers cutting corners here and on Hwy 89 and Hwy 49 sections on the east side. Note the road restrictions are from Sun Point on the east side and Avalanche Creek on the west side of the Going to the Sun Road. Several trail heads on the east side of the Going to the Sun Road are under construction and parking is limited (part of the 9 miles of road construction from Rising Sun to Siyeh Bend happening this summer).
Water Park in Columbia Falls is doing lots of business as the temperatures have been in the high 80's and low 90's most of July.
